Access to full-time electricity is still one of the major issues that remote areas in India face. Though the percentage of households having access to electricity has increased there are still various challenges such as quality supply, reliability, and fuel shortages that result in a lack of electricity.
There are many problems that villagers face because of little or no electricity supply but one of the challenges children face is not being able to study after sunset. School-going kids in remote areas are bound to not study after sunset as they do not have electricity. Each kid has the right to education but the absence of electricity especially during the night reduces their study hours.
This problem was identified by Sheetal Lodha Foundation of Lodha Ventures. Recently, the foundation distributed solar-powered bags to students from the Adivasi communities of Navapada, Tumnipada, and Kokanipada. The event was held at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali, Mumbai.
Sheetal Lodha Foundation organized the event to empower students who face barriers in education especially due to lack of electricity in their villages. The initiative was a drive to ensure that students can access reliable light sources for their daily activities and studies even after sunset.
Sheetal Lodha Foundation is a private company registered as a non-government organization incorporated on 9 February 2021. The company was started to improve health and education for underprivileged communities in India.
The foundation has taken commendable transformative initiatives in critical areas, especially health and education, and reached out to a maximum number of people making a significant impact on society.
The problem of no or lesser electricity supply in India has been for years. Even today urban areas face the absence of electricity during intermittent periods. The situation is even worse in villages and remote areas. However, the situation has improved significantly in recent years, especially in urban areas, but remote areas still face the problem to an extent. Additionally, there is no electricity during night hours in the villages most of the time.
Students are the ones who suffer the most because of no electricity after sunset. They cannot study during the peak hours which is a big hurdle in their education and future.
Sheetal Lodha Foundation, which was founded to impact the lives of one million underserved Indians positively by 2028, understood the plight of school-going children in remote areas because of no electricity after sunset. This made the foundation take the significant step of distributing solar bags to kids of Adivasi communities.
Efforts
The mission of Sheetal Lodha Foundation is to build empowered communities to foster stronger individuals who can bring social transformation. It has a vision to foster the well-being of underserved communities by making them realize their full potential through education and skills development.
Sheetal Lodha Foundation started an initiative known as ‘Supporting Education’ under which it organized the event of solar bag distribution on 19th October. The initiative was headed by Yashvi Lodha, daughter of Abhinandan and Sheetal Lodha, at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali.
The foundation distributed solar-powered bags to 70 students who belong to the Adivasi communities of nearby remote areas. The event was successful with enthusiastic participation from community members, students, volunteers of Sheetal Lodha Foundation, and local officials. The bags were distributed by Abhinandan Lodha along with forest officials of the region.
Sheetal Lodha Foundation considers that education is everyone’s right and no child should be deprived of this. Every child should get a chance to learn and grow without restraints. The bags are considered a source of hope and motivation for the students to study without any hurdles.
Through the initiative, the foundation aims to bridge the gap for students who face various challenges in their studies among which lack of electricity is the most significant.
One of the major barriers to education for children in rural communities is the lack of electricity. Children cannot access electronic gadgets and the latest sources of education which results in a lack of information and learning. The event of solar bag distribution was a huge success which was evident from the excitement and gratitude of 70 kids who received the life-changing gift.
The solar-powered bags will enable the students to study without interruption which was caused mainly by the absence of current after sunset. It will improve their learning experience as electricity provides proper lighting. Students can also use electronic technologies and media to educate themselves as the bags will provide power to charge the gadgets.
The presence of electricity after sunset through the solar-powered bags distributed by Sheetal Lodha Foundation will enhance the learning experience for the children of the Adivasi communities. This will also enhance their confidence and pave the way for their growth in the future.
Children can spend more time on study-related activities through the solar-powered bags. In addition, this will affect the other children of the community positively who will be motivated to learn more and grow. The reliable source of light after sunset instills a ray of hope and positivity for the whole community.
Sheetal Lodha Foundation has been supporting the underprivileged communities of society by offering education, health, and necessities. Apart from the event of solar bag distribution, the foundation has been a part of numerous programs that foster education in remote communities.
It also offers financial aid to children whose families were lost or suffered setbacks during the 2020 pandemic. The foundation offers access to electronic gadgets to children of remote communities to make them avail smart and high-quality education and enhance learning.
In the future, Sheetal Lodha Foundation promises to stay to its commitment to supporting community welfare by offering education and health facilities in any form. It aims to work especially for the children and people belonging to remote communities which lack amenities for livelihood. It believes everyone deserves a life full of health and education for which the foundation is committed to working at its best.
