Vatsalyadham: Laxmi Diamond Group’s initiative for Education and Development of Orphan Children

Vatsalyadham – A Home for Orphans

Vatsalyadham is a home for orphaned children in Surat, Gujarat, where along with education; children are made self-reliant in all aspects of life.

Vatsalyadham is run by the Gajera Group in Surat city. Born out of a noble thought of Shri Vasant Gajera and Smt. ChampabenVasantbhai Gajera to help the needy and homeless children, struggling even for basic needs, gave birth to the Vatsalyadham – A Home for Orphans. 25th May 2005, on the birthday of Shree Vasant Gajera, this thought became a reality with the gracious hands of Swami Shri Dharambandhuji. 56 children who did not have any hope or vision in life, got shelter and love under the roof of Vatsalyadham. At present, Vatsalyadham has become a home for 850 children who have hope, vision, and mission for living.

All the amenities at Vatsalyadham is provided free of cost. Children here undertake activities like farming, cooking, sewing, decorating at different occasions. They also undertake photography assignments.

Sonu Sheikh, one of the students at Vatsalyadham says – ‘It is very important that the society should come forward and make constructive efforts for the overall development of children, which is the need of this era. I study in Std X. When I was eight or nine years old, my mother left me and after some time my father also left me, their faded memories are still somewhere in my mind. I still remember those days when I used to wander here and there and eat anything available. While wandering one day I went to a police station and this gave me entry in Vatsalyadham. I want to become a Computer Engineer. Here at Vatsalyadham, I have a great opportunity to accomplish my dream.’

Following the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, Vatsalyadham inculcates the value of self-reliance among children. Vatsalyadham ensures that every child is empowered to thrive. The philosophy gives immense opportunities to children to unlock their full potential, showing them possibilities to grow in a wonderful environment. Daily routine and activities of students at Vatsalyadham are organized in such a way that it teaches them the principle - to consider each and every work equal and to move forward with positive attitude, irrespective of unfavourable circumstances.

Physical development and mental development are the most important factors for the overall development of the child. Affordable diet for physical development is essential. Vaastasalayamvadhi child is kept vigilant enough to get quality and nutritious meals. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are provided in the morning according to a balanced menu. In order to make Vatsalayadham's child physically fit and physically, mentally intelligent development is complete. The quality of food is emphasized on the basis:

1. Meal arrangements as per menu

2. Pure milk management from the Gaushala of the institute

3. Green vegetables are used seasonally

4. Organic Vegetables

5. Use of quality lentils

6. Food preparations in less oil and spices.

Vatsalyadham has become a centre of holistic development for these children. It provides physical, mental and spiritual support to the children and makes them capable to create their own identity. At present, most of them have gained high degree of education, serving happily in their profession, and leading a respectable life. Not just Education, Vatsalyadham also provides an environment of immense opportunities to realize their passion and unlock full potential for achieving the best of their abilities.
