Course Description:
This Public Policy and Governance in India – Understanding Processes, Institutions and Citizenship course is designed to develop an understanding of processes, institutions and citizenship in relation to public policy making and governance in India. It will be useful for professionals working in the area of social policy and development as well as practitioners with a need to orient themselves with the historical and contemporary trajectory of policymaking in India.
The lectures will cover a mixture of theory and case study-based learning approaches through presentations, movie screening, participatory exercises and critical reflections on readings from participants. This course will attempt to examine the interface between institutions of governance and public policy, in the process of policy planning with particular reference to India. It will enable students to explore and understand policy processes, formal and informal institutions and the nature of citizenship that shape public policy formulation and implementation.
