Dr. Sunita Gandhi is the Founder-Secretary of the Disruptive Literacy Partnership. After completing a PhD in Physics from Cambridge University, she worked as an Economist at the World Bank, Washington DC, for 10 years. She left her job and returned to India to work on literacy of the socio-economically disadvantaged people. In 2014, she initiated the Global Dream Disruptive Literacy Program, and developed ground breaking new methodologies to make people literate in record time. Sunita is also Vice-Chairperson of India Literacy Board. She also supports her family to run the world's largest school, City Montessori School, Lucknow – which is both a Guinness World Record holder and a recipient of the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education. Sunita has been recognized as Educator of the Year 2015 by the India Book of Records and has been felicitated by the Government as a 'Visionary of Uttar Pradesh'

She answered the following questions during the interview:

  1. What was it about the domain of Education that motivated you to work in it?
  2. What role DEVI Sansthan is playing in solving the literacy crisis in India?
  3. How can literacy be scaled up at a low cost? And how can school children be leaders of change for literacy?
  4. DEVI launched a highly innovative toolkit to promote literacy, the Global Dream program, that has later turned into a people’s movement for making India literate, so what was the inspiration behind starting an initiative like this?
  5. How is the Global Dream Program aligned to the new NIPUN Bharat FLN Mission?
  6. What is the project ‘Global Dream 2F 2E’ all about and how is it using the innovative curriculum to give the gift of education to someone who has only dreamt of it?
  7. Lastly, what are some of the future areas that Syngenta is looking to explore in the near future?
