In Conversation with Mrs Shabnam Singh and Mrs Poonam Nanda, YouWeCan Foundation

Mrs Shabnam Singh is the chairperson, YouWeCan Foundation and the mother of international cricketing icon and cancer survivor Yuvraj Singh. After winning Yuvraj's battle against cancer, the mother-son duo started the YouWeCan Foundation in an endeavour to empower people across India to fight cancer.

A two-time breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Poonam Nanda is the Founding Member & Mentor, YouWeCan Foundation and has been actively involved in the field of education for almost three decades. Her passion drives the initiatives and campaigns of YouWeCan. She leads by example and spreads the message of awareness and early detection to thousands of women across the country.

Mrs. Singh and Mrs. Nanda answered the following questions during the interview:

  1. To begin with, we would like to know What led you to start the YouWeCan Foundation?
  2. 1/3rd of all cancer deaths can be prevented by better awareness and early detection, so what approach you are taking to ensure the same?
  3. Can you elaborate on your recent initiative, Mission1000 Beds, which is a rapid response solution for hospital critical care capacity expansion? and what was its reach and impact so far?
  4. Since you are already working with organizations like Accenture, Milaap, SBI Foundation and many more, how would you say partnerships help amplify your work and how do you make sure you are able to make the most of it?
  5. In October 2021, YouWeCan Foundation launched the ‘Swasth Mahila, Swasth Goa’ initiative in partnership with the SBI Foundation and the Government of Goa. Could you elaborate on this?
  6. Lastly, are there any stories or instances from the ground that have helped strengthen the resolve of the Foundation and solidify its work even further?
