Haryana Skill Development Mission (HSDM) has been established in May 2015 by State Government with an aim to empower youth to take part in the economic and all-around growth of HARYANA and INDIA.


The Mission is a single point of contact within the Government to formulate and steer skill development schemes across the Department. HSDM acts as an integrated mission that combines the efforts of various State Departments in achieving the skill development target of the State.


It already has 80+ courses, which covers 15+ different sectors available for the youth of Haryana in our schemes like SURYA, SAKSHAM, PMKVY, etc.


The Mission also has an Entrepreneurship scheme which is currently being implemented through HVSU. Equipped with a team of professionals and cutting edge Training partners, each program is implemented with the vision of developing futuristic knowledge, skills, and hence gaining the employment or becoming a successful entrepreneur.


In this interview Mr. Raj Nehru, Vice-Chancellor- Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Haryana & MD-Haryana Skill Development Mission (Govt of Haryana) answers the following:

1. Could you walk us through the work and varied schemes that you are running under that Haryana Skill Development Mission?


2. An interesting initiative of yours by the name Seekho Sikhao, aims at strengthening and updating the competencies of teachers/ trainers. Why do you think this is crucial and how do you go about making it a regular practice?


3. Under the State skills mission, you currently have around 80+ courses, which covers 15+ different sectors. What are the most sought after skills and courses and why do you think they entice the youth more than others?


4. Apart from the State skills mission, you are also the Vice-Chancellor of Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, which is India’s first government skill university. What was the idea behind this dedicated institution and how are its programs panning out in terms of creating skilled youth for job roles of tomorrow?


5. Your programs are based on the National Skills Qualification Framework and have a demand-driven focus. How does this tend to differentiate your programs from other skilling courses?


6. Now, through all these courses and skilling programs, how are you leveraging industry connects to keep the content relevant, add more employment opportunities, and create sustainable skillsets for the youth?


7. How do you think COVID will shape the skilling needs and what all are you doing, both as a part of the Haryana Skill Development Mission and Shri Vishwakarma Skill University?
