Project Synopsis

Project Ganga is a project for awareness of menstrual hygiene in collaboration with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Schools in the Navi Mumbai area. It targets school children from 7th to 10th. Along with the awareness of menstrual hygiene sanitary products will be provided to the girls, in this program parents' and teachers' engagement is also taken care off.

Proposed Project Description

Objectives-

  • To spread awareness among adolescent girls on Menstrual Hygiene.
  • Demonstration on menstrual products.
  • Distribution of free sanitary products in govt & low-income schools of Navi Mumbai.
  • To increase parents’ and teachers’ engagement in menstrual hygiene.

 

Description of activities-

  • Community survey – In order to comprehend the problem and the associated myths, a community survey will be conducted. The teenage group and their mothers will be the main subjects of the community survey. The survey will focus on govt and low-income private schools, tribal areas, rural areas, and urban slums.
  • Identification of beneficiary – Beneficiary identification with the help of govt & low-income schools, tribal areas, and rural areas will cover all govt & low-income schools, private schools, and communities in Navi Mumbai, the surrounding area.  The age group will remain from 10 to 18.
  • Identification of partners- Identification of partners who can financially and technically support the program. CSR and other NGOs working in the field of menstrual hygiene.    
  • Planning of program- Planning of the program’s number of schools, number of communities’ facilitators, and coverage throughout the month.
  • Organizing awareness camp- Awareness camps in the schools, and communities focusing on the use of menstrual products, myths, and misconception around it.
  • Distribution of sanitary products- Distribution of sanitary products among the user i.e adolescents’ girls.
  • Demonstration of sanitary products- Demonstration on the use of sanitary pads and other products and their benefits.   
  • Questions and Answers round in group- Questions and answers during the campaign by addressing the issues related to menstrual hygiene.  
  • Gender- Sessions on gender patriarchal roles in society and their impact on ones’ upbringing.
  • Personal counseling- Personal counselling will be done to the girls having issues related to menstrual hygiene productsPersonal counseling will be intended to support adolescent girls.
  • Formation of peer group- Peer groups will be formed in each school to sustain the program and encourage other school inmates for using sanitary products.  
  • Feedback from users. 

Strategy-    

  • Collaboration meeting with the education and Health department for proposal discussion and presentation of the plan of action under the proposal.
  • Data seeking from civic bodies, education, and health, department for detailed plan and execution of the session.
  • CSR partners, NGO, and Community leaders.
  • Key persons will be approached in the slum area to support and involve, private schools in the Navi Mumbai area to reach to the maximum beneficiary.
  • ASHA and ICDS workers will be engaged to reach more private schools and slums to organize awareness sessions.
  • Every month 15 sessions with 6th std to 10th std and 10 parents, teacher session on menstrual hygiene content; 25 working days’ plan. First group sessions and then Personal counseling will be done on a need basis.  
  • Formation of 10 peer groups in 10 NMMC schools, govt & low-income schools, communities, tribal areas, and rural areas. We will form peer groups in each school to inspire and encourage other school-going girls to participate in the program.
  • Role model for the promotion of menstrual hygiene in the NMMC area.
  • Sanitary products will be distributed to the NMMC school as per the numerical size of the batch. Sanitary products for other adolescent girls in the Navi Mumbai slum area. 
  • Gender education sessions will be taken along with menstrual hygiene sessions.

  • Proposal designing and brainstorming.
  • Fundraising and grant-seeking with CSR partners.
  • Staff recruitment process and project planning.
  • Capacity building of staff. 
  • Collaboration Liaoning with the health department and govt & low-income schools.
  • Commencing project activities with govt & low-income schools, tribal areas, and rural areas communities.
  • Monthly progress meeting with the team.
  • Six monthly KRA (Key Results Area) meetings Govt & Low-income schools, rural areas, tribal areas and communities, and health departments to present the data and project progress.
  • Project exit plan and handover with govt & low-income schools, tribal areas, rural areas, and health departments in the last 6 months of the project.
