Project Synopsis

Jharkhand is a state with a large tribal population who live below the poverty line. Jharkhand has, as of May 12, seen an upward trend in the number of COVID cases, with three deaths. In the wake of COVID-19, health care workers are at an increased risk of exposure to the virus. There is a serious shortage of basic lifesaving equipment in ICUs during a pandemic situation like COVID 19. Providing the needed equipment will ensure that these patients are provided with the treatment they deserve, and also that healthcare workers will be adequately protected as they work on the frontlines. The health secretary of Jharkhand has identified the basic protective needs of five government hospitals—masks, gloves, and PPE. Ekam will take care of: selection of vendor in a transparent manner, installation and training of the ICU staff, and monitoring and evaluation of the equipment.

Proposed Project Description

The Challenge:

The world is currently facing a herculean task in combating the COVID - 19 Pandemic and the medical professional are putting their tireless effort in controlling the deadly disease. But it has to be remembered that health care workers are at an increased risk of exposure to the virus.

The state of Jharkhand is populated by tribal populations, for whom the government healthcare system is the only recourse to modern medicine. In times of pandemics like COVID-19, the hospitals in the state are likely to be overcrowded and underprepared.

We have identified the need for the medical equipment for Isolation Ward & ICU for Government Hospitals. In the pandemic situation there is an urgent need for Personal Protection Equipment to protect the frontline health workers from getting infected.

Providing the needed equipment will ensure that these patients are provided with the treatment they deserve.

The Solution:

Ekam will facilitate the procurement and distribution of COVID-19 equipment, including PPE kits, gloves, and masks to government hospitals in Jharkhand.

This will not just help the healthcare workers, but will also help patients and communities with increased confidence in the efficacy of public healthcare.

The list of requirements has been collected for the following five hospitals:

  • MGM Medical College and Hospital, Jamshedpur
  • PMCH, Dhanbad
  • Hazaribagh Medical College and Hospital, Hazaribagh
  • Dumka Medical College and Hospital, Dumka
  • Palamu Medical College and Hospital, Palamu

The Process:

  • Retrieve list of requirements from ICU head/Concerned Authority (done)
  • Ask for quotations, select best bidder, procure equipment
  • Arrange for installation and training of ICU staff
  • Ensure adequate maintenance checks are in place
