Project Synopsis

Young people are agents of change and their potential to influence entire families could be leveraged to change the way people eat. A school is thus an obvious place where healthy eating habits can be inculcated. In September, 2017, FSSAI had launched the Safe and Nutritious Food@School (SNF@School) initiative. Since then, thousands of schools have registered, created certified Health and Wellness Coordinators and have begun activities under this program. To make implementation simple, FSSAI has created credible content in Yellow Books 1 & 2 and made it available online on www.snfportal.in.

Proposed Project Description

Young people are agents of change and their potential to influence entire families could be leveraged to change the way people eat. A school is thus an obvious place where healthy eating habits can be  inculcated.

The SNF@School program involves adoption of schools and create awareness about healthy eating habits. It includes creating and training Health and Wellness Coordinators in each school for the purpose of engaging students and parents through various activities on food dafety and healthy eating.

Students are the most susceptible to food-borne diseases and due to their lack of awareness, are open to experimenting with food and diet while at school. Project SNF@SCHOOL is based on a three-pronged approach, at the school, state and national level. This is being done through curricular or co-curricular activities. At school level, the culture of food safety & nutrition is to be promoted through Health and Wellness Coordinators and Health Teams. An enabling legislative and regulatory framework is being developed to promulgate this message. The success rides on every individual as a stakeholder because safe & nutritious food is not only a necessity, but a way of life & a shared responsibility.

Salient Features

  1. Change behaviours of students to inculcate healthy eating practices
  2. Create and train Health and Wellness Coordinators in schools
