Project Synopsis

GRIRR. Running Day Care Special School to cater to children with disabilities in Garden Reach Slums Area in Kolkata. Identification of 150 children with disabilities in the target areas The Special Educators ,Speech therapist and physiotherapist identity Intellectual disabilities ,Cerebral Palsy ,autism and Locomotors disabilities and provide them Special Education in the center. The Main purpose of the special education is to help the children to cope with daily / personal chores and start the process of formal education with an aim of mainstreaming in future. The physiotherapist help the children with their physical coordination in order to enable them to lead a normal life .In specific cases , needed the special educators and physiotherapist visit homes of children to cater to them with available services

Proposed Project Description

The Project will take care of basic needs of children with disabilities , their education besides  physical rehabilitation ,which includes supporting the provision of special education to children with disabilities, taking them to school , supporting their education activities etc, Today’s children are tomorrow’s future – so we need to invest to ensures children with disabilities go to school so that in future they would , no more be burden of the society. Project will meet the basic rights of children with disabilities – right to live ,right to earn ,right to have better quality of life ,right to be equal especially of women  with disabilities .The project will offer children a chance for rehabilitation by working together with others who are actively involved with families at home, The make use of the available services ,supplies and facilities available in the area .This proposed project fulfills all the above -mentioned objectives as it aims toward a holistic from of rehabilitation which engulfs both the Education and social model of rehabilitation. Out of 150 children ,110 children need physiotherapy which involve different conditions like Cerebral palsy ,Locomotors Disabilities ,Autism ,Spina Bifida ,Muscular Dystrophy. In these 90 children comes at center to receive rehab services but 60 children gets home based therapy and special education ,because 60 children are in severe condition who cannot come to the center to avail the the results or goals that you hope to achieve through the project (it would be helpful to understand

About Garden Reach Institute For The Rehabilitation And Research

Since 2015 Garden Reach Institute For The Rehabilitation And Research  has started project day Care   Rehabilitation Center  to cater to the needs of cerebral palsy, mentally challenged ,Multiple Disability and Autism children from slum areas of Kolkata Garden Reach Metiaburuz Slums. India has some 40 to 80 million persons living with disability, it is estimated that about 30 percent of them are children below the age of 3-18 years. Garden Reach Institute for Rehabilitation And Research  has done extensive research and baseline surveys in the targeted area and has come up with finding that there are more than 12 disabled children in the age group of 3-18 in a 1 sq km area. The findings of the World Bank also say that there is at least 1 disabled child in every 12 households. The criterion for getting disabled certificate according to the Government is identified as physical and mental deformity of 45 % disability. Most of the disabled children are from the weaker section of the society and many of them come from illiterate families. A majority of them either drop out of school or have never been to school.
