Jaipur Rugs Foundation is implementing an initiative to strengthen the economy of the most vulnerable community from the District of Rajasthan and to preserve folk art and the traditional craftsmanship of weaving. Jaipur Rug foundation will be working on reversing the trends and empowering the rural people at their doorstep.
JRF has been promoting market-linked interventions that can provide skills-based livelihoods to grassroots community members at their doorstep. The initiative will also present rug production as an acceptable alternative for skill-based market-linked livelihoods in those locations that are traditionally not involved with this art. This will enable the traditional art of rug weaving to continue living for years to come and make way for developing the next generation of weavers.
Jaipur Rugs Foundation established in 2004 is a Non-Profit Organization. Built on the bedrock of love and compassion, it works to engage with the communities to develop their creative capacities and sustain them as a part of an entire movement of empowerment. The overall work mandate of JRF is to reach out to remote rural areas and establish bonds with the underserved communities, especially women, thus enabling them to start weaving not just rugs but also their own lives. Such weaving of lives is done through two intertwined verticals: ‘entrepreneurship development and ‘social development. The entrepreneurship development vertical focuses on the economic well-being of the artisans and their communities through skill development training, leadership development, and sustainable livelihood support, the social development vertical promotes their social well-being through field interventions and linkages.
Currently, Jaipur Rugs Foundation is working with over 40,000 artisans in 600 villages of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Rajasthan impacting around 200,000.
