Project Mitra aims to support school-going girls in West Bengal, with the goal of reducing the number of girls who drop out of school. Additionally, the project strives to create a supportive environment for menstrual hygiene in the girls' households. The absence of sanitary napkins in schools not only impacts the physical health and cleanliness of female students but also perpetuates the social stigmas and taboos surrounding menstruation.
Our proposed project aims to overcome these challenges by implementing a sustainable solution: the installation of vending machines and sanitary napkin incinerators in schools. These machines and incinerators will be strategically placed on school grounds to ensure convenient access to affordable sanitary napkins. Furthermore, the project will incorporate educational components to raise awareness about menstrual health, hygiene practices, and dispel misconceptions about menstruation. The Foundation has already provided similar machines in rural schools, benefiting the girl students in those areas.
The Foundation has already supplied comparable machines to rural schools, where they have been beneficial for female students. Now, the Foundation's goal is to assist 30 schools by providing compact napkin vending machines and incinerators, along with an initial supply of sanitary napkins. After that, students will be required to pay a small fee to obtain napkins. The remaining cost will be covered by the fund. This approach will enhance their self-esteem and sense of dignity.
