Project Synopsis

Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is a loving abode for old, sick, and abandoned cows. Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is named after the Sacred Cow, Kamdhenu, who is the source of abundant prosperity. Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam Trust was founded in the year 2016 under the Grace and Guidance of Maitreya Dadashreeji, a Global Humanitarian, Social Reformer & Transformation Pioneer. It is a partner organization with MaitriBodh Parivaar. Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is an effort to care for these innocent and gentle animals that are the victims of current malpractices. It is a purely social initiative for the care and protection of abandoned, sick & non-milking cows. We have 2 Gaushalas - one at Jambrung Village in Karjat, Maharashtra which is the first Gaushala having 22 cows and 6 calves in a small area. We are planning to build another one to accommodate 101 cows. The second Gaushala is at Amritsar wherein the Municipal Corporation, Amritsar handed over its Gaushala to Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam Trust on 1st February 2022 for operations and maintenance. The Gaushala is located at Naraingarh, Chheharta, Amritsar. It is only 500 meters away from India Gate and near the War Memorial Museum. Spanning 7000 square yards, our cow shelter is a nurturing home to more than 304 abandoned cows.

Proposed Project Description

Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam Trust is a non-profit organization set up under the grace and guidance of Maitreya Dadashreeji - a Social reformer, Global Humanitarian, and Transformation Pioneer. The organization is volunteer-driven and is a loving home for old, sick, injured, and stray cattle, especially cows and buffaloes which have been abandoned.

Vision: To promote and propagate love, care, and protection for cattle.

Mission: To build shelters across the country, providing food, care & love for the old, injured, and abandoned cows /cattle. To create awareness regarding the protection of the cows. To campaign for cruelty against cows.

Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam Amritsar is a Loving home for old, sick, and injured stray cows. The Municipal Corporation, Amritsar handed over its Gaushaala to Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam Trust on 1st February 2022 for operations and maintenance.The Gaushala is located at Naraingarh, Chheharta, Amritsar. It is only 500 meters away from India Gate and near the War Memorial Museum. Spanning 7000 square yards, our cow shelter is nurturing home to more than 304 abandoned cows. It is a loving home for old cows which have been abandoned by dairy farm owners once they cannot produce milk or reproduce and have been picked up from the streets of the city. Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is a purely social initiative for the care and protection of abandoned, sick, injured, non-milking, and old cows.   

Our Founder - Maitreya Dadashreeji, a Transformation Pioneer, Social Reformer and Global Humanitarian from India, Maitreya Dadashreeji is the Founder of Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam. He has guided many individuals, humanists, youth, and atheists, to walk the path of Love and Selfless Service for establishing His vision of One World, One Family.

  • Current Structure of Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam – Amritsar: In the current Gaushala, there are 2 sheds with 6 blocks in total, one infirmary, an administrative office, an accounts section, a store room, 2 staff rooms, a Vet room, a fodder warehouse
  • Number of Cows: Currently, there are around 304 cows in the Gau Dhaam, all the cows have been picked up from the streets of Amritsar. A few cows are milking cows and have given birth to calves.
  • Current Staff: Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam is currently operational with the help of 15 sevadaars who take care of cows and calves. The workers work as full-time helpers and do feeding, cleaning of the premises and all other work. Apart from this, we have a 24*7 para vet at the shelter who looks after the medical aid of the cows and a vet who inspects and supervises the running of the shelter on a daily basis.
  • Current Salaries to staff: The total monthly salary for the staff is Rs. 2,10,000.
  • Current General / Miscellaneous Expenses: The total current General / Misc. expenses are Rs. 55,000 pm including water charges, electricity charges, maintenance and upkeep of the property, and traveling charges.
  • Current Fodder Expenses: The cows are fed with high-nutrition fodder according to the guidelines by the Animal Husbandry Department of Punjab. The total current expenses for the fodder are Rs. 7,00,000 per month.
  • Current Medical Expense: The current approximate monthly medical charges for cows are Rs. 70,000 and this includes the salary of the vet as well as the para vet.
  • Current Total Expenses: The current total expenses for the management of Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam are Rs. 10,35,000/- per month. The current annual expenses for Kamdhenu Gau Dhaam are Rs. 1,25,25,000 /- (ref. table mentioned in 2.8). These expenses are currently being met by individual donations.

Funding: This Gaushala is being managed with the only intention of taking care of and protecting abandoned sick and non-milking cows. Hence, we do not have any revenue source from the cow products. Funding for the operations of the Gaushala would be achieved by the following sources:

  • Individual Donations
  • CSR Grants (under the ambit of Animal Welfare)
  • Government Grants

Project Progress Reporting: We would be providing quarterly project reports which will include project progress reports, fund utilization & impact assessment.

Impact Analysis of Q4, 2021-2022: Before taking over the reins of the Gaushala, there were 200 cows and within 2 months the number had gone up to 305 cows. This highlights our efforts of rescuing 105 cows.

  • Recognition by Punjab Gauseva commission within one month of taking charge
  • We have received medicines worth Rs. 25000 from the animal husbandry department, Punjab
  • Appreciation for commendable work by the Commissioner of Amritsar on his visit to our Gaushala on 22nd March 2022

Future Plan - FY 2022-2023

  • Set-up of Biogas Plant – Cow dung will be used to produce biogas which in turn will be used to produce electricity for the Gaushala thereby making it a Green initiative
  • Constructing a new Cowshed for approximately 120 cows
  • Installation of CCTV for 24/7 live footage.
