Project Synopsis

The proposed project is for the education sustenance of underprivileged children studying at Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School. The children are first-generation learners and come from 40 neighbouring villages. Most of the children are from single parent, broken, downtrodden families. Sevalaya provides a completely free, high-quality education to the children. The children are provided free notebooks, two sets of uniforms, and stationery each year.

Proposed Project Description

Goal: To sustain the education of the 150 underprivileged children, reducing the drop-out rate further and enabling them to develop their skills in a supportive environment.

Aim: Ensuring excellent education, life skills, physical and mental wellbeing as also character building, to prepare children for responsible and happy lives.

Vision: The vision of Sevalaya is to serve the underprivileged and transform them to an equitable, happy and fulfilled society with an improved quality of life.

Objectives:

  • To provide free high quality education to the underprivileged children including uniforms, books, notebooks and stationery.
  • To provide value based education which enables the children to become self-reliant and live ethical lives in the rural  area in which we are located
  • Consistently produce 100% pass results in board examination
  • To handhold students for their higher education and employment
  • To encourage the students to participate and excel in sports and extracurricular activities
  • To aim for state level ranks in the class X and XII board exams

About Sevalaya

Sevalaya is a registered charitable Trust established in 1988, head quartered in Chennai and doing charitable activities spread across 10 districts of Tamil Nadu and 1 Union Territory, namely, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Trichy, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Nilgiris, Dharmapuri districts and Puducherry. We run free School – primary up to 12th std, Hospital, Medical centres, Mobile medical services, Community colleges, Tuition centre, Home for the elders, Home for the children, Organic farming and Gaushala cow shelter. The organization is professionally managed and is governed by a Board of Trustees drawn from industry and social sectors, with a deep commitment to social development. Sevalaya draws its inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and the patriotic poet Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyar and their philosophies.
