Project Synopsis

United Way of Baroda’s Integrated Rural Development project envisions rural communities have access to quality education, health access, Women and youth empowerment, and grow up to realize their full potential. Till date, the project has been carried out successfully in 15 rural villages of Gujarat, which has started showing holistic improvement in all three sectors -Education, Health, and livelihood. With this objective and experience, United Way of Baroda proposes an integrated rural development project in other rural villages of Gujarat state. The project works with all age groups from pre-primary to adults of the rural communities. The Project focuses on Schools Enhancement by Infrastructure upgradation, Scholarship program with mentoring, Computer learning, STEM Enhancement. Its initiatives for Community health include Health camps, Community Water ATMs. It also focuses on the Women's resource center with skilling training and providing livelihood opportunities, thereby promoting Women Empowerment. Its Youth Resource center empowers youth by improving skills, knowledge, and greater confidence to develop their career and employability.

Proposed Project Description

Integrated Rural Development Project envisions all age rural communities to have access to quality education, health access, women and youth empowerment and grow up to realise their full potential. With this objective, United Way of Baroda proposes an integrated rural development project for rural community development in Gujarat State.

 

The project would have the following key interventions:

 

School Enhancement:


  • Infrastructure- As part of this component, they propose two kinds of infrastructure upgradation. Specific requirement in each of these would be finalized once the school is determined
  • Scholarship with Mentoring- Scholarship to bright and needy secondary or higher secondary students with articulated mentoring workshops to enrich their communication and personality development.
  • Computer application teaching at school level and enriching their computer skills by placing a regular computer teacher and enrolling in government CIC certificate course.
  • STEM Enhancement: Establishment of Mini Science centre in the school which is equipped with 75 tabletop working models with backdrops mapped to 125 concepts of mathematics and science for class 5th to 10th. Teachers will be trained, and events/ competitions will be organized on regular basis in this centre

 

Community Health:


  • The Free Health Camps will be organised in the rural areas where people are neither able to afford medical treatment nor having any basic knowledge regarding health and hygiene. So, through these programs people will be given aware on various health issues and medical check ups
  • Community Water ATM will be established to provide clean potable water 24 hours, and which will improve health of community
  • Women Empowerment- They propose to open Women resource skilling centre which will provide skill base training to women and enrich their skills and provide livelihood opportunities leading a step towards social enterprise. The center will also facilitate various health and education sessions to update their knowledge and health.

 

Youth Empowerment:


  • They propose to create a centre for youth in the community to provide a platform to build their confidence and to empower youth by improving skills, knowledge, and greater confidence to develop their career and employability

 

Volunteering:

 

  • Regular community Events will be organized along with corporate partners and other volunteers for voluntary events in the community to enrich their area. Tree plantation on regular basis and plog run to make the environment and area clean and safe.

 

The project aims at improving the quality of life of people through conscious and collective efforts and impactful partnership of community, social organisation, and corporate houses.

  • To uplift and improve the quality of life of rural communities and individuals
  • To enhance the quality of education in rural schools and students
  • To empower rural women and youth with educating and enhancing their skills and creating opportunity to grow
  • To facilitate the communities by improving infrastructure through collective efforts and conscious decision making which will help the communities thrive and develop.

Vulnerable rural communities, schools, children, women, youth elderly.

  • The project caters to all strata of the community like children, adults, and older adults.
  • The project works extensively in wholistic approach in uplifting of vulnerable rural communities of Gujarat state.

  • The project covers major Sustainable development goal set by the United Nations and works towards peace and prosperity and goal achievement.

 

Outcomes and Impact:

 

  • Higher Education initiative: The higher education initiative has motivated the students to take education seriously and to work hard for better future. It has taken their interest in studies to a new horizon where they share and learn new things with the help of skilled trainers and dedicated educationalist. They are also being provided various facilities which lead to increased attendance and higher grades resulting in elevation of school’s overall result.
  • Relief due to health initiatives: The community members enjoyed the services of doctors at their doorstep which gave them huge relief as they received medicines for free as well. The regular health talks lead to spreading of awareness regarding many women related issues and health concerns.
  • Improved social wellbeing and quality of life: The interventions done in the communities have increased the quality of life and social wellbeing of the communities.

About United Way of Baroda

United Way of Baroda is the first local set up of United Way in India. It has been working towards the upliftment of quality of life of underprivileged communities of Gujarat since last 34 years and affiliated to United Way Worldwide which has 130+ leadership and a network of nearly 1800 community based United Ways in 46 countries and territories.

 

The nucleus of the organisation lies in the fulfilment of six basic needs of the society- Education, Health, Environment, Income Stability, Social Inclusion and Disaster Management. It works on the grass root level to improve local communities by mobilizing resources. The moto of GIVE, ADVOCATE and VOLUNTEER has remained the core for the organisation since its inception. It has created a huge impact on the communities through various specially designed programs according to the needs of the community

This includes designing of CSR policy and strategies, due diligence of NGO partners, programme implementation, employee volunteering, impact assessments and financial and programmatic reporting. They continue to successfully work on socially relevant spheres of impact while catalysing and promoting the philosophy of “GIVING”.
