Proposed Project Description

Educate & Transform

Nurture Merit Program Is a well-designed, structured and focused project to support bright girl students coming from economically challenged families. The support is extended to post 12th grade students to continue their college/higher education till completion of graduation leading to meaningful employment. The project has the following integrated services.

Financial Assistance: This will cover college fees and exam fees. Along with this additional amount for coaching facilities is given for top performers. For some extreme need based cases (10%) additional amount is also given to cover room and boarding

Books & Library Services: selected students receive One set of academic books, Internet access reference books , and one workshop under this program

Training through Residential Bridge Camps: Arranging various skill and need based training for our beneficiaries through residential bridge camps to enhance communication/life skills and employment opportunities. Along with this to ensure creating good, sensitive citizens for the society.

Selection and Identification of students

Vidya Poshak has devised a unique process to identify deserving students. The selection is meticulous and detailed. Following are the activities involved

  • Inviting Applications through high school, NGO network, Press/AIR, well-wishers and facilitators/volunteers.
  •  Students to be shortlisted on the basis of their performance in the entrance test  and  academic test
  • Screening by physical visits to students dwelling units to asses poverty and need to ensure only deserving applicant received the benefit.
  • Induction and orientation to all student beneficiaries covering career awareness, social and self-responsibilities, study skills etc.

·         On approval students are given financial assistance along with an induction program, which will cover information about their donors and their responsibilities of being a VP beneficiary. Depending on their performance, subject to a minimum academic benchmark students are extended continued support till they complete graduation.

Reporting System

The program also has a well-structured monitoring and reporting procedure in place.  The progress of each student is closely monitored throughout the support period. Contact details of students along with their profiles are provided to donors. The students who receive the financial support will communicate to donors regularly. This enables the dual process of instilling a sense of responsibility in students as well as facilitating direct interaction between them and the donors, thereby building satisfying and lasting relationships.

Post Finance Support:

The Nurture Merit program has led to an understanding that apart from financial support students require other levels of support.  It is equally important to monitor their academic performance and achievements, make efforts to reduce drop-outs and equip students with skills to meet the needs of the job market. Vidya Poshak therefore conducts post-finance reviews, tracks progress and performance of students regularly and analyses data/statistics to understand the impact of support provided.  It has also created appropriate infrastructure to facilitate meaningful help for the needy with support from like-minded people.

Salient Features

  1. The only program where support is based on mean and merit and interventions to assist beneficiaries for a holistic development of needy and bright stu
  2. Identification of financial status of beneficiary stduents by visiting their dwellings for verification
