Project Description

A livelihood initiative in the name of "Jeevika Samriddhi" has been conceptualized by NABARD and VEDANTA limited Jharsuguda to promote sustainable livelihoods of farming households through intervention in agriculture and allied activities. The relevance of Jeevika Samriddhi project is based on the need to augment irrigation infrastructure, promotion of advanced agriculture, application of bio-fertiliser and pesticides and making farming as a remunerative profession. The project will adopt two pronged approach to upscale the livelihoods of farming communities through Land & Water development and promotion of advanced agriculture practices.

The project has been piloted in Siriapali village with 111 identified households in the first phase. The project has been started with the following objectives:

  • To organize farmers into villages level institutions (Farmers Clubs)
  • Improved farmer access to assured source of irrigation and land development measures for round the year diversified crop cultivation
  • To improve farmer's access to advanced practices of agriculture and allied sources of income
  • To promote bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticides and to ensure its utilization by project farmers
  • To improve market access and better price of farmers in the project area

 

Subhalaxmi Bahumukhee Mahila Samabaya Samiti Limited is registered under Odisha Cooperative Society Act 1962 as a women Cooperative and commonly identified as "Subhalaxmi Cooperative". It has emerged as a model women self-help entrepreneur organization in Odisha. This is a women centric organization owned & managed by women itself. It is designed to create a landmark for the underprivileged people of the locality to ensure for making the women self-reliant and for livelihood security of their family. In 2008, this project was started through Vedanta CSR initiative under the aegis of "Vedanta Integrated Jan Jeevika Yojna (VIJJY) with only 10 active women from 9 villages with the initial contribution of INR 1,000/-. Today, it has its presence in 64 villages of 3 blocks (Jharsuguda, Kolabira and Kirmira) of Jharsuguda districts and catering to the livelihoods and financial needs of around 3328 women members who are organized in 280 Self Help Groups. Through this cooperative, around 1623 women members are engaged as microenterprises.
