Project Description

Over the past 17 years, Company have worked to contribute to systemic reform in school education in India, through Wipro Applying Thought in Schools (WATIS). The strategy for this has been to support the development and strengthening of good organizations working in this space. Company has partnered with over 101 organizations in different areas of systemic reform. The impact of this wide network of education organizations has been in the areas of curriculum, text books, teacher capacity, and school leadership. Over the last 17 years, Company’s work has spanned 163 projects with a collective reach of close to 20,000 schools across 29 states. During 2017-18, they continued to build momentum of identifying and supporting new and young start-ups in school education through a structured program of seeding fellowships. 29 Fellows from 17 organizations were added during the year taking the total number of ‘Fellows’ to 60. The second element of their strategy is to support organizations working in other developmental areas like livelihoods or healthcare to expand their locus of work to school education. 15 such organizations were identified for partnering during the year. In addition, Company continue to identify and partner with good early to mid-stage organizations who are already working in education. Their hope is that this three-pronged strategy will eventually help build a bulwark of strong organizations across the country which is deeply committed to change in school education. As part of network building and advocacy of such issues, 17th national forum was organized – a unique platform that brings together the best minds in education in the country to deliberate and exchange thoughts and ideas on some of the most important issues in education. Company’s target, set in 2015 is to support 100 new organizations by FY 2020. As of March 2018, they are supporting 56 new organizations.
