450 cyclists participated in the expedition from Gangrel Dam) to Jabarra in Dhamtari district organised on Sunday under the banner — Du Paiydal Suposhan Bar (Two Pedals For Nutrition) — to spread awareness on state’s ambitious nutrition scheme.

The expedition began from Ravishankar Reservoir (Gangrel Dam) at 7.55am. Addressing the gathering, collector Rajat Bansal said, this cycling expedition will be beneficial in bringing awareness among people about the nutrition scheme of the state government to eradicate malnourishment from the state.

The cyclists reached Kukrel via Fathamuda and Makardona at around 8:45am where a traditional ‘Madai’ washeld. Chhattisgarhi stalls were set up at the Madai including those of local dishes prepared by women’s self-help groups, local jewellery, agricultural equipment, and traditional sports-related stalls. Officials along with the cyclists danced with artists performing Chhattisgarhi Raut Nacha at Madai.

They also enjoyed ethnic Chhattisgarhi dishes like chilla, muthia, fara and paan roti during a short stay at the Madai. Dishes like bitter gourd leaf bhaji, barbatti and kumhada bhaji, and idhar kadhi attracted the cyclists. After this, they reached the ecotourism spot Jabarra at around 12pm. Various events and activities including health-related sessions, healing sessions, fish spa, hiking and traditional sports were held at Jabarra.

Collector Rajat Bansal, Dhamtari SP BP Rajbhanu, Zila Panchayat CEO Vijay Dayaram K, DFO Amitabh Bajpayee, officers and employees of various departments, volunteers of Red Cross Society were present in large numbers. Besides youth of different clubs of Dhamtari, cyclists from the districts, and students of schools and colleges participated in the event.
