DCM Shriram partners with Tata Trusts to sensitize adolescent girls and women on menstrual hygiene

DCM Shriram Ltd has joined hands with Tata Trusts to raise awareness on menstrual hygiene within adolescent girls and women in and around its four sugar units in Hardoi & Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh.

DCM Shriram has been working on health and hygiene for the last several years under its social responsibility program. ‘Khushali Sehat’ its health program is being run in 44 villages of Hardoi and Lakhimpur districts through our partner organizations Vinoba Seva Ashram, Gram Swarajya Mission Ashram and Mamta HIMC on the ground. Taking this program forward, our Village Level Workers (VLWs) have been given Knowledge training by the Tata Trusts team to generate further awareness among adolescent girls and women on sanitation and safety during the menstruation period, also about the benefits of use of reusable cotton sanitary pads. The VLWs will be further doing three sessions each for all the female population of these 44 villages to create awareness on the said issue and the same will be repeated at regular intervals.

This initiative related to sanitation and safety in the menstrual period of women operated in collaboration with the Tata Trusts is a significant effort and I believe that it will give special benefit to the women of the region. "

The Tata Trusts team also trained women on making reusable cotton sanitary pads at the Silai School a CSR vocational skill training program run at Ajbapur and Loni by DCM Shriram where rural young women learn sewing. These women will make reusable cotton sanitary pads which will be sold by the team of VLW’s. 

This MHM program will benefit about 11000 women from 44 villages.
