Mobile Infection Testing and Reporting (MITR) Labs are a unique diagnostic laboratory on wheels. Initially designed for COVID-19 RT-PCR testing with ICMR-approved designs, these mobile units are suitable for vaccine delivery, and other infectious and general purposes diagnostic test service delivery in remote and underserved areas.

ShanMukha Innovations is a growing private enterprise striving to solve the access challenge in healthcare by designing, delivering, and supporting affordable solutions. Bringing the diagnostic lab to the sample to meet the healthcare needs of 4 billion people at the “bottom of the pyramid” globally is its stated mission. Started in 2016 at the Society for Innovation and Development, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, the company has designed an automated microscopy system, portable thermal cycler, and novel diagnostic kits for sickle cell anemia that are under clinical validation and final stages of regulatory approvals. In 2020, the team executed under tremendous pressure and risk to launch India’s first ICMR-approved mobile RT-PCR labs with generous support from CSR donors such as SBI Foundation United Way Bengaluru and others. This mobile lab solution is now being updated to support other infectious and general-purpose diagnostic tests addressing non-communicable diseases, mother & child health, and vaccinations. With ISO 13485 certification, NSIC, and GeM registrations, the company’s focus on quality has been rightly approved by various industries and govt. bodies.

With roots in India’s best research institute viz. IISc, Bangalore, and managed by a team of experienced professionals with combined industry experience of over 50 years, ShanMukha Innovations offers the best combination of technology, management, and execution for effective implementation of any CSR program. Our company worked through lockdowns and their multiple ramifications on supply chain and manufacturing to design, fabricate and deploy India’s first ICMR approved mobile RT-PCR labs for COVID-19 testing. This project received support from SBI Foundation, Tata Motors, United Way Bengaluru, and Collins Aerospace. Subsequently, 11 more mobile labs were delivered through DST CAWACH grant and CSR support from UWBe and Lowes India. More than 5 lakh lives have been impacted through our mobile labs over the past 18 months. Over 45000 free RT-PCR tests were done through our mobile labs and operating partners at Kumbh Mela, 2021. With our pipeline of products and solutions, we are targeting another 5 Crore lives from marginalized communities including scheduled tribes and related vulnerable groups over the next 3 years.
