One of the country’s largest urban agglomerations, Delhi sits at the Yamuna River, a tributary of the Ganga River, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Himalayas. Delhi’s position as the national capital and as a major industrial city has supported its function as a banking, wholesale-trade, and distribution centre.The presence of such major conglomerates has made Delhi a very attractive destination for CSR investments. Mapping out the same for the FY 2020-21, below are the top 10 CSR projects implemented in Delhi, India based on the CSR funds allocation of each company.

The Company contributed to the CSR by contributing towards Health & Sanitation Program. The company continues to adopt a multi-pronged approach towards improving public health and hygiene. To promote a hygienic environment through prevention of open defecation and reduce incidence of water-borne diseases, 640 Individual Household Toilets (IHHTs) were constructed in 28 districts of 15 states in collaboration with the respective State Governments/District sanitation departments taking the total to 38,153 IHHTs constructed so far in your Company’s catchment areas. In addition, 23 community toilets were constructed/renovated in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu in the year, taking the cumulative to 104 community toilets. Along with sanitation infrastructure development, special focus was given to awareness campaigns to create demand and drive behavioural change.  The company has Imported of 24 cryogenic containers of 20 tonnes each in collaboration with Linde India Limited to ease the bottlenecks in transporting oxygen.

Our aim with this singular endeavour is to hone talents in India, so that the nation may become a hub for outstanding skills in the paint application trade. We are committed to this mission and are contributing towards upskilling those with an inherent predilection for the work. Our training programmes cover a multitude of subjects, such as designer finishes, emulsions, metal care, mechanisation, water proofing, wood finishes and wallpaper installation. This helps painters connect with lucrative professional opportunities in the industry. Our academies are equipped with contemporary facilities to provide hands-on experience to the participants. During the year we initiated upskilling programmes for plumbers in Himachal Pradesh and carpenters in Chennai with an objective to increase their earnings and disseminate knowledge and awareness to apprise them of latest techniques. The first training session for plumbers commenced in January 2020, for carpentry it was initiated in March 2020 with over 250 candidates completing the training during the year.

Employability is the most important focus area at the Foundation with Skills-for-Market Training (SMART) as its flagship project. SMART is run in two different model programmes. One is the directly-implemented programme known as SMART Academies and the other one is the partner-implemented programme which is run in partnership with the NGOs. Under Employability, TMF trained 15,268 youth in FY21. SMART in its partner-implemented category has three sub-domains namely, SMART-Technical and SMART regular and SMART+ (for youth with disabilities). The Foundation is currently working with 90 SMART centres across its 11 locations in India. Even amidst the pandemic, the programme trained 14,394 youth with the help of the e-learning initiatives taken during the pandemic.In addition to this, directly implemented employability projects are the SMART Academies running across 5 different locations that focus on healthcare and digital technologies. TMF is setting up SMART Academies as these provide more intensive, longer duration skill training programmes, taking the idea of the SMART centres to the next level. At present, there are 7 SMART Academies offering specialised, diploma and certificate courses in Healthcare, Digital Technologies and Logistics and Supply Chain. The academies, at present, offer 13 different courses. The Academies trained 874 students in FY21.

The company provided ration to over 10,685 contract workers at all Godrej Consumer Products and Godrej Agrovet sites, and to 8,900 construction workers at Godrej Properties sites. It supported 30,169 families around Godrej Consumer Products and Godrej Agrovet sites with food and hygiene kits and area fumigation and provided food relief and/or hygiene kits to over 43,874 families across India. Godrej also supplied 96,000 meals from their global headquarters Godrej One and supported in providing 25,000 cooked meals in Mumbai. It extended monetary and/or protective supplies to state and local administrations and donated INR 6.98 crore to the PM CARES Fund. The company provided safety kits for over 46,120 people, including contract workers, Godrej Consumer Products transporters, field sales personnel and Godrej Salon Professionals and made direct cash transfers to 250 market research agents to help meet the basic needs of families.

The Company contributed to the CSR by contributing towards Road Safety Awareness Program. They distributed 35,000 helmets in 7 cities through our ‘Ride to Safety’ platform. The youngsters of today will become the motorists of tomorrow, and will mostly have two-wheelers as their first vehicle. Given this understanding, the 'Ride to Safety' initiative encompasses annual sensitisation workshops aimed at making children aware of life-saving road safety rules and the need for wearing helmets from a formative age. These workshops work towards instilling safe habits within children that will stay with them all through their lives. Child-specific helmets are also distributed to youngsters who ride pillion on two-wheelers. During FY2021, over 250 such workshops were conducted across seven cities. Given the need to adhere to social distancing norms, these workshops were organised through virtual platforms. Over 40,000 parents and children were made aware of road safety habits, with the need for children to wear helmet as pillion riders on two-wheelers also being discussed. To facilitate a behavioural change, the Company distributed 35,000 specially designed ISI-marked helmets to the children and their parents, encouraging and promoting the use of protective gear by the entire family and helping improve utilisation of helmets.

This scholarship is awarded to meritorious students with demonstrated needs for financial support and to the specially-abled meritorious students. This year, 399 students, including 110 specially-abled children were selected to form the 18th batch of Dhirubhai Ambani Scholarship Programme. Students belonging to poor families get a chance to study at the best of the corporate colleges.

Under a joint initiative of Delhi Government and Maruti Suzuki to make roads safer, 9 Automated Driving Test Centres (ADTC) have been made up and running with the target to completely automate track testing at 12 centres in New Delhi. The project aims to assist the Delhi government in issuing driving licenses more efficiently, transparently and conveniently with minimal human intervention. These fully automated driving test facilities offer tracks with different formations and use access control – this enables permit entry at pre-assigned time slots along with biometric and RFID recognition system.The automated centres aim to reduce road accidents and fatalities by facilitating safe driving training before one applies for the Driving License. The use of advanced technology, including multiple high-definition cameras, helps to evaluate applicants against 20 essential driving skills which are in line with Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR). The ADTC tracks are scientifically designed and approved by the Department of Transport, Delhi Government for testing reverse parallel parking, up-gradient, Forward-8, Reverse-S, Traffic Junction, H-Track and overtaking skills for four-wheelers. The two-wheeler testing track, on the other hand, includes a serpentine track to test applicants’ manoeuvring skills, emergency braking skills as well as skills to ride on a straight ramp.Maruti Suzuki has made a sizeable investment to set up these facilities and will maintain them for the next 3 years where The Department of Transport, Delhi Government will continue to conduct driving tests and issue driving licenses to qualifying applicants at all Centres. More than 1,44,000 automated tests have been successfully conducted till December 2020 at 9 out of the 12 committed Automated Driving Test Tracks already been delivered by Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

With setting in of the pandemic, Bata globally pledged to donate 1 million pair of footwear to the medical workers and their families as a ‘thank you’ gesture for their unflinching support during the difficult times. The company started the donation drive in May 2020 and till date donated +1.92 lac pairs of footwear to the medical workers and their families at the government & private hospitals, ASHA & Aaganwadi workers, small clinics, charitable hospitals, police, children, etc. across +30 cities. Bata saw excellent employee engagement, with some employees going out of the way to timely deliver the footwear at the hospitals. It received appreciation letters from renowned government & private hospitals and other institutions for shoe donation drives and engagement with the police and other frontline workers.

Brief about the Company:Bata India is the largest retailer and leading manufacturer of footwear in India and is a part of the Bata Shoe Organization.  Incorporated as Bata Shoe Company Private Limited in 1931, the company was set up initially as a small operation in Konnagar (near Calcutta) in 1932. In January 1934, the foundation stone for the first building of Bata’s operation - now called the Bata. The Company went public in 1973 when it changed its name to Bata India Limited. The Glenmark Aquatic Foundation (GAF) aims to support competitive swimming in India to elevate India’s performance at the global level. Glenmark Aquatic Foundation runs three swimming high performance centres at Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. On account of the pandemic, these centres were operational for a few months in line with Government regulations. No major swimming meet (competition) was held during the year. During FY 2020-21 the Foundation actively engaged with swimmers and coaches through a series of customized online lectures with globally renowned coaches. It also partnered with FINIS and American Swim Coaches Association to roll out bilingual online coach education program- the first of its kind to be available in both Hindi and English.GAF supported Kushagra Rawat to train in the USA with an eye towards qualifying for the Olympics in 2021. GAF has extended its current partnership for the SAI Glenmark TIDM program in Delhi with Sports Authority of India till 2025.
