About the organization

Aaranyak is a premier biodiversity conservation and research organization in the non-government sector of India having its head office at Guwahati, Assam. Established in the year 1989 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 in India, Aaranyak received recognition as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India in 2006.

Deeply committed toward protecting the rich biodiversity especially in of Northeast India region, Aaranyak embarked on an unrelenting voyage that has surmounted uncountable barriers. Apart from continuing quality research work on biodiversity, water resources, hydrology, climate, natural disasters and environmental impacts, watershed management, application of remote sensing and GIS and wildlife genetics, we are also working for a generation of sustainable livelihood. With 14 divisions, Aaranyak succeeds in blending science and technology resources with the involvement of different stakeholders to achieve its conservation goals. Through 30 years of hard work, Aaranyak has carved a niche for itself in the field of biodiversity conservation in the global scenario. Aaranyak is a recipient of the prestigious RBS ‘Earth Guardian Award 2011’ conferred by the Royal Bank of Scotland in 2011, Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Purashkar 2012 from Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India and Recipient of 2017 State Awards for Scientific Excellence as a scientific institution from Government of Assam.

Aaranyak is a closely-knit team of environmental scientists, researchers, community workers, educators and environ-legal specialists who have excelled in their respective fields by virtue of team spirit, dedication, commitment, integrity, transparency, and accountability. Our team spirit is focused on facilitating enough legroom for individuals to emerge as leaders through skill development. Today, Aaranyak is anchored on a firm research and development base that has been facilitated by toiling in the field by our teams. It has formulated a number of conservation strategies or programs specific to Northeast India and a part of West Bengal state of India to address crucial environmental issues.

Over the years the various conservation and research works of Aaranyak have been supported by agencies  including International Rhino Foundation (USA), the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (UK), NABU-International (Germany), Panthera (USA), Smithsonian Institution (USA), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USA), Global Wildlife Conservation (USA), WWF-India, International Foundation of Science (Switzerland), IUCN (Switzerland), Zoological Society of London (UK), Save the Rhino International (UK), MBZ Species Conservation Fund (UAE), Department of Science and Technology – Government of India, Wildlife Institute of India, West Bengal Forest Department, Assam Forest Department, Assam Science Technology and Environmental Council.

Why should a corporate partner with organization?

We believe that every business has two primary responsibilities i.e. environment and socio-economic. Aaranyak has a well-equipped structure with devoted manpower to convert these responsibilities into action. But in order to sustain this zeal or spirit as well as to achieve widespread and lasting change, harnessing the strength/resources of the corporate sector is inevitable. For this purpose,  we need suitable partners from the corporate world. We are confident enough that our partnership with corporate entities will prove to be one of the best social partnerships caring for society and environmental ethics.
