About the organization

Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP) is a non-government, non-profit organisation working since 2001 for the empowerment of rural India through sustainable farm and non-farm livelihood development.

ISAP is one of the largest networks of agriculture and allied sector professionals in India and acts as a bridge between this network of Indian rural communities and other stakeholders, including governments, large development organisations and corporate entities, through large-scale field implementation projects with integrated deployment of ICT for efficiency and scale.

We work for enhancing livelihood opportunities for the rural poor through interventions in sustainable agriculture and livestock development, access to water and sanitation, skills development and women empowerment. Through our targeted interventions for economic and environmental sustainability through farmer aggregation, knowledge empowerment and market linkages, we contribute towards food security and rural economic development.

ISAP's vision is to improve the quality of life for socially and economically disadvantaged men and women.

ISAP's Mission is to enhance the livelihood opportunities for the millions of households in India through sustainable intensification of Agriculture, Skill Development and Market Integration.

With the active participation of our dedicated 200-plus staff and experts across 25 field offices in 17 states, so far we have contributed to enhancing livelihood opportunities for more than 300,000 farmer households, 1675 agri-preneurs, 9000 BPL youth, 15,000 women in 3500 villages, 250 blocks, 70 districts across India.

ISAP was established in 2001 by a group of agriculture and management professionals, with the belief that capacity building of small and marginal farmers' agricultural practices would help enhance their livelihoods and income, and thereby result in better quality of life for rural communities. In its formative years, ISAP's focus was on farmers' technical training through on-field and ICT-based interventions for agriculture development. Based on extensive learning on the field, over the years, ISAP's work has evolved to include integrated farming, farmer aggregation and market linkages into a comprehensive sustainable rural livelihoods approach.

In a decade and a half of existence, we have engaged directly with more than 150,000 small and marginal farmers and their families, strengthening their food and nutrition security, through interventions on sustainable agriculture with a focus on yield improvement, agribusiness, and human development. We work for women empowerment through the self-help group approach in our project locations. Environmental sustainability is an intrinsic element in our work through initiatives in natural resource management, soil fertility management, conserving bio-diversity, vermin-composting and sanitation.

We are recognised by the Union Ministry of Agriculture as a multi-state Nodal Training Institute partner for running Agri Clinic and Agri Business Centres under its MANAGE programme and are a leading resource institution with the Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC), Ministry of Agriculture, for promotion of Farmer Producer Organisations in India.
