IGSSS is a non-profit development organization, established in 1961 to support development programmes across India, especially to empower the vulnerable communities and grassroots community based organizations. Last year, we worked across 16 states and one Union Territory of India.

Through the years, IGSSS has evolved as a major player in the development sector in India, working on the themes of Sustainable Livelihood, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Urban Poverty Reduction, Gender Equity and Youth Development.

We are accredited by Credibility Alliance, registered with NGO Darpan (NITI Aayog’s platform) and BSE Sammaan. 

IGSSS facilitates the inclusion of economically, socially, culturally excluded and voiceless communities. IGSSS particularly focus on scheduled caste, scheduled tribes, minorities, manual scavengers, homeless, migrants, women, transgender, LGBTs, children, unorganized laboureres, small and landless farmers, disabled people and the other marginalised and at risk groups.

IGSSS responds to the manmade and natural disasters, making sure that the relief reaches the unreached and the most vulnerable groups are treated with dignity during relief and rehabilitation. We will work closely with government entities like NDMA, SDMA, and other disaster response coordination platforms to collaborate for effective response.

IGSSS upholds the principles of gender parity in all its programs. IGSSS has an organisational manual for the gender mainstreaming. IGSSS will maintain its thrust on gender inclusion in all the projects and initiate projects exclusively focusing on gender parity. IGSSS intends to work for the inclusion of men, women, transgender, LGBT in the gender program.

The work done by women is either being considered invisible or not considered at par with their male counterparts. The women are managing house chores, working in the field, taking care of kids and yet there work is not being acknowledged. They receive less remuneration than men for the same work. IGSSS will take on projects for building capacities of women farmers, daily wage labourers, house maids, young girls. IGSSS advocate for wage parity and social security schemes.

Youth development is a cross cutting theme across all the projects.Skilling of youth is an important area. Training on developing entrepreneurship skills, vocational Training for facilitating gainful employment is integrated in our programming apprach.

IGSSS aim to realize the potential of young people as active citizens by engaging them in socio-political processes and encouraging their particpation in democratic process.

We create Youth Champions on climate change, peace building, sexual and reproductive rights, gender parity and other social issues.
