About the organization

Founded by Dr. Sudarshan in 1996 with a mission to develop dedicated, service minded team that enables holistic development of marginalized communities through innovative replicable models with a passion for excellence.

Karuna Trust is a public charitable trust affiliated with Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra an Integrated Tribal Development Project located in B R Hills. The Trust began as a response to the high prevalence of Leprosy in Yelandur Taluk, Chamarajanagar district. 

Over the years, the Trust has expanded its scope of work to Health, Education, Livelihoods and Advocacy areas. Karuna Trust believes in providing need based, people oriented and culturally acceptable methods using appropriate technology with minimum cost to the community.

 

Karuna Trust reaches out to those who are in the remote and inaccessible areas, hilly and tribal regions, Naxalite and Insurgency areas with poor roads, no phone and electrical connectivity, where both public and private health services have hardly reached the poor.KT serves more than a million people across 7 states of India.

Karuna Trust currently manages 68 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in 6 states of India:

Karnataka, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Rajasthan

  • Karuna Trust currently manages 83 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in 6 states of India:Karnataka, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Rajasthan
  • Also manages 7 Mobile Health Units, 2 Citizen Help Desks and first referral Unit.
  • Providing free and assured primary healthcare service to 1.5 million rural people of India
  • Successfully brought down the prevalence if leprosy from 21.4% to .28% in karnataka.
