About the organization
eVidyaloka trust is registered non-profit trust, based out of Bangalore. Started in the year 2011, the organization is governed by a Board of Trustees, which comprises of over 100+ years of collective experience in running large scale businesses and building world-class technology platforms. Our vision is - to create a knowledgeable & empowered rural India through quality education. We strive to achieve with a mission of - connecting passionate volunteers to provide quality education for rural children, using technology and in partnership with local communities and Government towards a replicable, scalable and sustainable solution. The quality of education of children studying in Government schools in rural villages is a grave area of concern. According to the survey by ASER, where 73% of grade 5 students, don’t know division and 54% of grade 5 students, can’t read a standard 2 text. This is primarily due to an acute short of quality teachers. Today there is a national shortage of 1.2 million teachers.eVidyaloka addresses this gap by connecting high quality teaching volunteers from across the world, with the remote & rural Villages across India; using Digital Classroom technology. The online classes are two ways, live & interactive are conducted within the government school framework of functioning. As of 2019, eVidyaloka’s operations span across 232 centers in 10 states, benefitting over 15000+ children. We operate in a comprehensive partner ecosystem, that encompasses various grass root level organizations of varying sizes, who are involved in enabling the physical presence at the village level. eVidyaloka also engages with various content and volunteering partners. The financial model of eVidyaloka comprises contributions from small to large corporate CSRs, high net worth individuals and well-wishers across the globe.
eVidyaloka focuses on delivering core subjects – maths, science &english- to rural children through a remote delivery model, in the local medium of instruction, that both complements and supplements the existing school curriculum, by bringing together three levers - People, Technology & Process. We involve the local communities to own the digital classrooms, connect and empower educated native-speaking volunteers, across the cities in India and the world, to teach and mentor the children of rural villages of India. Teachers can be located anywhere across the globe and would require access to a computer system, webcam, headset, and broadband connection. The State Board curriculum is being taught by the Volunteer Teachers, with the objective of enriching them with rich digital media contents like Videos, visual flows, pictures, activities, etc. This helps the child to visualize and understand complex concepts. This in turn also inspires the child to participate in the teaching-learning process with a higher level of involvement. The profile of volunteering teachers ranges from highly qualified homemakers to Ph.D. scholars, retired teachers, defense professionals and a whole range of working professionals across the industries.
eVidyaloka team does the orchestration of schedules between the Centre and the Teaching volunteers, depending on the children's availability (Demand) and the teacher availability (Supply), through the proprietary technology platform – Jupiter. Classes are delivered via Skype or similar web conferencing technologies.
eVidyaloka is designed to be a complimenting/supplementing component to the established Government Education System. The respective authorities in the State Education Department are appraised about the functioning and the value proposition of the program and necessary consent is obtained, prior to the start.
eVidyaloka model measures the Process, Outcome and the Impact:
Process: Volunteer Teacher Utilization, Actual Classes vs Planned classes, etc
