Akshaya Chaitanya is an initiative in Mumbai to eradicate urban hunger. Their mission is to achieve a hunger-free Mumbai. It is part of their larger initiative across the country to eradicate hunger through several charitable feeding initiatives in collaboration with Government and Corporate partners.

They exist to alleviate hunger and malnutrition from urban India and provide livelihood to the poor. It’s a small effort to ensure that they take along the underprivileged and weaker sections of their society in their endeavor to grow and build their cities. It started with a free meal program for underprivileged in-patient attendants at Indo American Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad in Nov’11 and requests from several government and trust run hospitals started pouring in to expand the program. They instituted and registered a trust in May’13 to expand the program to achieve hunger free status for Hyderabad. And it took us 8 years to reach a scale to realize their mission for Hyderabad.

The various programs carried out by Akshaya Chaitanya are:

• Bhojanamrita program, in collaboration with Aurobindo Pharma, MEIL is feeding the 2500+ patient attendants daily in 15 government hospitals of Hyderabad for over 9 years.
• Annapurna program, in collaboration with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and corporate partners like SBI, Aurobindo Pharma is serving a hot, nutritious meal at just ₹5/- to over 40,000 daily laborers, slum dwellers and migrants across 165+ centers in the city for the last 6 years.
• Swasthya Ahara Program was launched in 2017 to fulfil the nutritional needs of underprivileged children in Government schools. The program strives to provide healthy and hearty millet based breakfast to the children with an aim to enrich the children with sufficient nutrients, essential for healthy growth and development as well the ability to focus on studies.

They have got 9+ years of service across 185+ touch points that served 11+ crore meals till date from 4 hi-tech kitchens built and operational, so far. Now, Akshaya Chaitanya wants to serve high quality, wholesome and hot meal to all underprivileged sections in Mumbai. As first step towards that, Akshaya Chaitanya has built a hi-tech kitchen in Byculla in South Mumbai to serve 20,000 meals every day.

The Organization has served for over 20 years now to eliminate hunger and malnutrition with ‘Akshaya Patra’ as its first initiative that serves 18 Lakh+ mid-day meals every day across 28 cities in 12 states and 2 UTs to further the cause of education amongst under-privileged. They served 11+ crore meals from 185+ touch points over last 9 years in Hyderabad to reach the ‘Zero Hunger’ status for a city; Today, they serve over 50,000 individuals every day. They also served over 2 lac meals every day in Hyderabad during the complete lockdown to ensure that no one slept hungry. The organization has nurtured successful partnerships with transparency and accountability Their 1st partners in the journey, have been consistent supporters till date in scaling up their efforts. Their partnership with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation since Jan 2014 laid foundation to spread their efforts in every nook and corner to earn a hunger free status for the city. They have also been supported by esteemed partners from corporates for their initiative.
