Since its inception, UVS is actively engaged in EcoVillage building to address environment, education, agriculture, energy consumption, mental health, and women empowerment thematic areas through people’s participation in Washim district, Maharashtra. The work of the organization is accompanied by sound fieldwork, research, and monitoring of each activity that was undertaken. With the collection of appropriate data, the organization puts an idea before the people through awareness drives. The organization has successfully established several initiatives across the Washim District in Maharashtra. Being enthusiastic and innovative, the building block of the organization is a tiny little principle of “Making living sustainable”, which has anchored all the activities.
Our Vision:
To contribute to the prevention of farmer’s suicide and its plight through the provision of basic climate change education and the promotion of sustainable agriculture practices and mental health, leading to wellbeing and sustainable development.
Our Mission:
Dedicated to serving the community, nation, and world by connecting the donors with community-based projects, coordinating the available resources and expertise to promote sustainable development in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Geographical Location: We are working in the farmer's suicide-prone region of Vidarbha were no developmental agency or organizations yet turned up.As per the World Bank's report on 28 June 2018, seven out of the top 10 most-affected hotspot districts from south Asia will belong to the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. The report proved to be very true, the situation in Vidarbha is worsening consistently. Every eight hours, one farmer commits suicide with a total of 1,057 suicide recorded in the last 11 months. From 2001 to 15 Dec 2019 16,918 farmer's killed themselves.
Experience in Mental Health: We are the only organization working in Vidarbha to address mental health causes to save farmers. We have digitalized the PHQ-12 format of screening stress levels of beneficiaries which even the Prerna Project of the Maharashtra Government is not having. Also, UNIMINUTO University of Colombia is working in collaboration with us to address the suicide issue in Vidarbha. Moreover, doctors and highly proficient experts are contributing to us as United Nations Volunteers.
United Nations Accreditations: We are a UNEP and UNCCD accredited organization and recently we have received special consultative status with United Nations ECOSOC. Also, we are a partner with FAO's Global Soil Partnership. Recently our startup in agriculture was selected as a 'Finalist' in Global Agri-Inno Challenge 2021 this proves our capability and credibility.
Exceptionally Well Volunteers Support: We have employed hundreds of highly qualified, experienced, and expert volunteers from the corners of the world making us self-sufficient in the human resources field. Also, we are working in collaboration with local colleges to get on-field volunteers for project implementation. Due to this, all our projects are working on minimal resources.
Comprehensive Plans on Ecovillage: To address maximum SDGs efficiently we have a very comprehensive plan for transforming the village into an Eco village under which we are working on Regenerative Agriculture, Public School Rejuvenation, Women Empowerment, and Mental Health. This plan may best work to address farmer suicide in an effective way.
Good Grassroot Connections: We are directly working with beneficiaries this helps us in better implementation of the project and getting instant feedback.
Success Stories: Through our efforts, proper administration, and stakeholder’s involvement in our project, we have done remarkable progress in the below-mentioned fields:
Environment: In collaboration with CliMates Organization France, we have facilitated World Climate Simulations for university students. Through our youth mobilization and Green Campus projects, we have channelized the youth for environmental actions and we have received a ‘Certificate of Merit’ from World CSR Congress.
Mental Health: Our team is proving to be a lifesaver in Vidarbha as we are giving our beneficiaries a free doorstep service on mental health disorders. UNIMINUTO University of Colombia has collaborated with us to take the project to a greater height.
Agriculture: Through our Family Farmer project, farmers in our region are encouraged to practice regenerative agriculture and a platform has been established to market their products to the consumers in the locality. Our startup plan stood in the Top Ten level at FAO’s global Agri-Inno Challenge 2021.
Also, the contribution of UVS to education and rural development has been remarked by International organizations like the Bahrain government, PLAN International, Leipzig University Germany, GTZ Cooperation, Climate Reality Project, etc. The trust and acceptance of thousands of UVS beneficiaries is our asset. UVS is stepping to the heights of success due to its dedicated team of volunteers, staff, committee members, supporters, stakeholders, and very special donors.
Why should a corporate partner with organization?
Universal Versatile Society is working on a broad range of humanitarian issues. In spite of all odds we are still progressing and gaining the trust of beneficiaries thus we are a credible organization. Below mentioned pointers may better describe the need for corporate involvement in our projects:
Suicide crisis rate in Vidarbha has been aggravated considerably for 2 decades. This is actually an emergency situation arising in the region and no developmental agencies, state or central government succeed in tackling the issue. In fact, this issue no longer remains the priority of the government.
The World Bank reported seven districts in our region as major climate change hotspots but this region has no social security coverage thus this fact remains unnoticed and environmental degradation is accelerating on business as usual.
Being based in a remote geographical area we are unreachable to the corporates and thus organizations here have never been prioritized by corporates.
SDGs are interlinked with each other, they could be better addressed if the proper project is developed. Through the team of worldwide highly expert professionals, we have developed all-encompassing solutions to address SDGs.
Partnering with our organization may help the corporates to demonstrate their social work presence as we have an expert social media management team of worldwide volunteers.
The project we are working on has well-defined measurable goals, easy to monitor and evaluate.
