About the organization
UNDOKAI Dreams Association (UDA) is a Non Government Organization, a Section 8 company under the Companies Act, 2013 for charitable and not-for-profit purposes. UNDOKAI is an educational program for the purpose of developing and improving one’s character, rooted in the Japanese schooling system. The words of the father of quality management, W. Edwards Deming, reflect the educational significance of UNDOKAI - “The general system of management cannot be changed without changing the general system of education. They are one in the same.” They realised that problems to do with management, organisational culture, and education are all connected in a causal relationship and these challenges are experienced all over the world.
“UNDO” means exercise and “KAI” means meet, making UNDOKAI a term that translates to sports day. Started as an annual tradition of conducting sports day in Japanese schools since 1885, the aim of UNDOKAI is educational training which contributes to intellectual, moral and physical development. The essential merit of UNDOKAI is its capacity to teach values that build 'communityship', which is why corporates also use it as a tool to build solidarity/unity of the company.
Established in 2016 in India, UDA “contributes to the progress and development of society from the sites of education.” This means that through school-based education, by providing UNDOKAI (events that aim to shape human beings through physical exercise) to the children who will make up the society of the future, they will enhance the non-cognitive skills of “perseverance, self-control, motivation, social intelligence, appreciation, optimism, and curiosity” with an “attitudinal education” that cannot be learned through reading or writing. For the act of learning, they believe that given the presence of an independent “attitude,” knowledge will transform into wisdom, and eventually, for children, it will come to be taken for granted before fading away to become culture
Since the start of their work in 2007 in Japan, they have been seeing the contributions UNDOKAI can make. All problems can be solved with human spirit, and they believe that UNDOKAI can contribute towards the creation of a better society. Children who participate in UNDOKAI will become adults a mere ten years later, and then parents ten years after that. To realize true social progress and development for human beings, they are determined to attempt to have an effect that will last for those next twenty years. They also intend to involve parents and even the community through their deep concern for children’s growth.

Why should a corporate partner with organization?
UNDOKAI deeply considers the fact that despite over decades and centuries of efforts (the most as an ad-hoc intervention) delivered by government and non-government entities and individuals, we still have not been able to eliminate any of social problems such as poverty, war, discrimination, child labour, etc. They think that the fundamental cause of all these social problems are attributed to the mind/mental model and values of human beings. To solve these social problems by a real bottom-up approach will take a very long time. It requires continuous intervention and the population may not consider it as an efficient/smart approach. However, they strongly believe that such a fundamental approach will prove to be helpful in solving most of the stated problems and can be easily adopted by the society. UNDOKAI Dreams Association helps deliver this approach to the young population by way of dual intervention for EDUCATION (longer term effect) & SOCIETY (short term effect). This dual intervention was instituted in Japan, in the post-war era, using UNDOKAI as a tool to develop communityship leaders in their society/community. UNDOKAI also introduced practical education as a way to learn and train children to develop communityship mindset and values as a culture of the country.
