About the organization


Bharathamatha Family Welfare Foundation is a voluntary, secular, non-profit organization registered under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 27 of 1975. It was started on 24th April 1989 by a group of highly motivated youth as a response to the growing apathy of the society towards the less privileged,physically and mentally challenged people in the society. With an aim to provide the needy with the opportunities to attain dignified and improved socio-economic status, this organization has been serving the society for the past 30 years in Thiruvarur, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam Districts of Tamil Nadu.


Bharathamatha Family Welfare Foundation decided to help these people sustain the benefits they have gotten and improve them socially, economically and culturally.For more than 27 years, Bharathamatha Foundation has been helping the poor and marginalized community’s access financial, technical and institutional support in order to improve and strengthen their livelihood opportunities. Bharathamatha Family Welfare Foundation presently works with 21 private and public development aid agencies to reach out to 92,000 households in Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Thanjavur Districts of Tamil Nadu, further Bharathamatha works for the welfare of the children, women and marginalized communities in villages

Mission: Providing community based care and support system to the needy: ensuring their access to skills and opportunities to attain dignified economic and social status in the community



  • To work for the welfare and development and rehabilitation of person with disabilities
  • To work for the welfare and development of women and children
  • To form women self  - help groups and promote small savings among them: facilitate setting up of micro enterprises through micro credit
  • To create awareness, motivate, educate and train youth on livelihood issues
  • To offer medical aids and other relief to the victims of natural disasters (calamities) such as quake, fire, flood and cyclone
  • To provide employment oriented skill training programme to the youth and assist them in setting up small business ventures in the lines of self-employment
  • To form women self -help groups and promote small savings among them
  • To conduct vocational and para - medical courses for the purpose of self - employment
  • To work for the National Integration and Communal Harmony
