About the organization
TCT was founded in 1970 by four businessmen who wanted to translate their belief "Social responsibility of business is not optional, but obligatory" into action. TCT is working in 315 villages in the Vellore district, providing services in Community Healthcare, Women Empowerment, Disability, De-addiction and Village Development.
TCT’s model has always been based on collaborating with the community to meet their own needs. From their experience, if you do not engage the community from the beginning, your program will fail. Communication is a key. The community members have shaped their activities, and with their feedback TCT has evolved as well. Trial and error have been vital to trust’s learning process, and when they discover that they are redundant, they move to other needs. Trust has always worked with volunteers but now even put more emphasis on creating local leaders and action groups. Women have played a large role in facilitating any gap between TCT and the community. They have become the change agents, earning respect and accepting ownership for implementing action on the ground.
For the past few years, trust has been working on consolidating their activities, and focusing their work in the region on integrated and effective community health and development practices. They also set up the Thirumalai Mission Hospital in 2010 to offer accessible, affordable and quality healthcare.
Trust continues to work toward their goal of bringing the rural poor together to build their future, and improve their quality of life.
