About the organization
The Brooke is an international animal welfare charity that works to improve the lives of horses, donkeys, and mules and the poor marginalized community that owns them. Founded by Dorothy Brooke, in 1934, in Cairo, to provide free veterinary care to war horses abandoned after World War-I, it then expanded its operations to 11 countries, across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Today Brooke reaches out to more than two million working horses, donkeys, mules, and the marginalized communities that own them.
Brooke Hospital for Animals (India) or Brooke India (BI), is an affiliate of The Brooke. It is a Section 8, Not for Profit Limited by Guarantee Company, and is registered with the Animal Welfare Board of India. BI has been working since 2000, to improve the lives of vulnerable working equids and communities in some of the country’s most challenging areas. We now operate directly through 32 Equine Welfare Projects (EWPs) across 10 States in India, thereby reaching out to approximately 2.21 lakh working equids and the equine-owning community that owns/rears them.
Our Vision is of a world in which working horses, donkeys, and mules are free from sufferingand have a life worth living.
Our Mission is to achieve immediate and lasting change in the lives of working horses, donkeys, and mules and the communities that depend on them.
Our Goals: “We are proud to be Brooke. We are resourceful, share new ideas and help eachother succeed. Together we make change happen”. Over the next few years, we want to reachand improve the lives of more animals and their communities than ever before – and we’refocused on three goals that we believe can get us there.

Why should a corporate partner with organization?
Brooke only works with knowledge partners i.e. Veterinary Universities, Research and Traininginstitutes, and collaborates with related CSO on a need basis. Presently we do not opt forcorporate partnerships.
Relationships with our knowledge partners are based on the principles of common purpose, mutual respect, commitment, clear delegation of responsibility, transparency, accountability, and flexibility.
