Project Description

The project is being implemented in 6 villages namely Hastinapur, Santipur, Uttar Dambokial, Namoni Dambokial, Ujjoni Dambokial and 16th Mile under LuitKhabulu gram Panchayat of Telahi Development Block of Lakhimpur district. The district of Lakhimpur, Assam faces annual floods lasting for a period of 4-6 month causing severe damage to personal property, livelihood and income of the people living there. These villages were some of the perennially worst affected villages in the area. The project aims to design intervention which will build resilience in the communities to face the upcoming flood, adapt during the flood and stabilize their well-being and livelihood during non-flood season. To provide access to sustainable energy efficient solutions for communities adversely affected by the flood, IGSSS design 2 Disaster Shelters for Mishing Tribes villages, Solar Home Lighting system has been installed in different villages inhabited by Mishing and Bengali community. The system are installed in the household of Kamala Halder and Fulmala Holder (through Janakalyan Aichiga SHG) at Alichiga Patnawala, Prakajyoti Doley of Morotpur Khabulu, Lakshidhar Pegu and Birason Doley of Kankan Chapori of and Anil Mili of Uttar Dambukial. Post demo of the home lighting system in 4 villages, 9 Inquisitor from three villages has approached IGSSS staff about the home lighting system and expressed their interest to procure home lighting system. It also encompasses other 11 target villages apart from the names mentioned above for installation of solar energy system for disaster shelters and demo for solar home lighting system.Workshop on entrepreneurship development programme was organized at Lakhimpur. The objective of the workshop was to identify potential entrepreneurs to train on installations, service and maintenance of the Solar systems to take forward all current and future solar projects. An awareness cum technical training workshop on solar power Agri based solution was organized. Currently marginalized farmers use livelihood equipment that run on diesel and manual. This intervention aims at providing sustainable energy solutions for machinery with increased efficiency. Sustainable energy plus energy efficiency interventions will improve savings and income levels of the end users. Solar Water Pump, Solar Rice huller has been installed. It has also been planned to install LSK and Solar based Black Smith blower.By improving access to reliable energy, energy efficient appliances and sustainable infrastructure the goal is to collaboratively develop replicable and holistic interventions that improve the lives of communities most affected in the flood prone areas. The project also aims at designing and implementing disaster resilient shelter space in the community which will act as disaster shelter during the flood and space for conducting productive activity during non-flood period.
