To enable tribal and forest-dependent communities to earn a sustainable livelihood, reduce their dependence on natural ecosystems and involve them in conservation, TCF implements a livelihoods training programme titled ‘PUKAAR’ for the benefit of forest-dependent communities and tribes.

The programme supported by Axis Bank Foundation has provided livelihoods / vocational training in around 40 trades/skills to over 3000 unemployed youths and women between July 2012 to June 2018 from the areas in and around tiger reserves of Corbett, Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Kaziranga. Beneficiaries have been trained in skills and vocations such as handcrafting bamboo and lantana articles, candle-making, incense stick making, handloom weaving, local foods and processing, tribal art, masonry, electrical and automobile repair, naturalist training, Basic Hospitality, apiculture, beautician training, sewing and tailoring, fisheries, poultry and livestock farming among others.TCF not only provides training but also facilitates job placements and entrepreneurship among the beneficiaries with a success rate of over 70%. TCF helps the trainees in forming Self-help Groups (SHG), trains them in managing small businesses, and takes special efforts in finding new avenues for the marketing and sale of their products.

TCF has sets up local handicraft shops where various products made by Self Help Groups (SHGs) and beneficiaries of PUKAAR are displayed for sale. In addition to providing skills training to the beneficiaries of PUKAAR, TCF helps in the marketing and sale of their products through these outlets, particularly at locations which see a high tourist footfall during peak safari season.
