Project Description

Saheli is not only an initiative but also a constant effort to give voice to the unspoken and ignored matters of our society. Ladli wishes to reach every hidden and dark corner of our society and give women a ray of hope. Saheli is an Action-Research initiative that is especially designed for a holistic development of underprivileged women and girls in which they have successfully organized a number of mega health camps, counselling sessions and intensive community outreach activities for sensitizing the female population about the most concerning issues related to MHM, WASH, Sexual Abuse and prevention of life threatening communicable diseases, HIV, COVID-19 & STDs through medical screening and involving mothers and daughters together to make them understand the importance of their bond towards discussing the most sensitives issues and eliminating them at the initial stage. The project is designed in a way to start a conversation among people living in slums where inhuman traditional practices, myths, taboos and poor health conditions are the main hurdles in providing them basic amenities and equal rights and opportunities for women. It aims to alter and break the taboos and adopt safe and sustainable healthcare and reproductive rights for women, so that they drop the shame attached to these issues and talk about them without any hesitation and create attention surrounding the growing gender inequality and discuss how it is cultural and not biological. Where Ladli focuses on the underprivileged female section of the society, Saheli a part of it aims at initiating friendly relations between mother and daughter. Saheli also considers all the poor health conditions of the females living in urban and rural slums who are not aware of their menstrual hygiene diseases. Till now they have directly benefitted 2.75 Lakhs females by providing primary healthcare and sensitized over 6 lakh females across India. Additionally, the maternal knowledge of Anemia & MHM provided by Ladli is very important because of it’s potential to encourage women to take iron supplements and educate the child as well, since the mother is the first teacher and true Saheli of the child. Women therefore, with greater knowledge of ANEMIA would be more likely to adopt behaviors aimed at reducing ANEMIA, such as taking iron supplements, having their children consume milk and green vegetables, and other iron rich foods, having their children take deworming medication.
