Project Description

In India, 65% of the elderly population testifies to neglect and abuse. A severe shortage of old age homes has forced them to continue living in such terrible conditions or all by themselves. This section of the society has long been neglected, with various statistics verifying the same. According to conservative estimates, there is a requirement of over 15,000 old age homes out of which only 750 homes presently exist. In order to fill this gap between the required and actual numbers of old age homes in our country, and with a motive to provide the elderly and neglected people the love and dignity they deserve; Wishes and Blessings aim to set up a chain of old age homes in India. The first in this series; our pilot project: Mann Ka Tilak was inaugurated on the 25th of April, 2018. On April 25, 2019, Mann ka Tilak opened its doors to old and abandoned men who were looking for a new lease of life. Since inception, we have been able to reach out to more than 30 such old and neglected people.

Special Features of Project

What makes Mann ka Tilak a unique home is that all amenities are provided completely free of cost. Residents are provided with clothing, toiletries, 3 square meals, medical care, and most of all, a place to call their own. All birthdays and festivals are celebrated and volunteers regularly visit the old age home, sharing new skills that the residents can learn.

Some residents are united with their families and the team carries out regular checks to ensure that they are being treated well. Others refuse to go back to their dismal situation and stay on at Mann ka Tilak, happy to have found a new family who loves and cares for them.
