The Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Program (WASH) encourages personal hygienic practices and brings behavioural changes by creating awareness in the community about the risks of open defecation and water contamination.
Area Level Workshops: They are conducted at CAGL operational Areas for all the branch staff - Branch Managers, Kendra Managers and concerned Area Managers of that particular operational area. They learn to understand and analyse the national as well as local CAGL customers’ sanitation status and its significance with a need to create awareness among them. Importance issues such as of toilet construction, its usage and maintenance, need of personal hygiene and its relevance will be taught. The workshop provides information about CAGL WASH loan products as well. The participants get clarity on activities designed and methodologies adopted to deliver the content and can prepare a joint action plan for effective execution by understanding the roles and responsibilities of ND and CAGL team.
Sensitization of CAGL Kendra Women Members: A Kendra level session for individual Kendra member at their homes to educate them about their own sanitation status, problems of bad sanitation practices, its impact on family health and need of construction and usage of individual toilets. It is explained using flip charts, discussions and question-answer sessions. It helps them understand various awareness activities planned to be conducted in their village and motivates all the customers to attend each activity.
Village Level Training: It’s an effective infotainment method adopted to create awareness about water, hygiene and sanitation practices. These events address behavioural aspects on usage of toilet to the large sections of the community through an entertaining enactment of the concept. It is a form of theatrical performance and presentation in an outdoor environment to convey the concept-based message to the crowd watching it. During the show, sanitation related issues of that particular village are highlighted so that the community relates it seriously and is convinced to take collective decisions. The event also shares the information about facilities provided by the state as well as CAGL to improve water and sanitation systems for individual families.
Wall Paintings: Create awareness and educate the general community to build, use and maintenance of toilets. It is an effective outreach methodology of drawing the wall painting at a common place in a village with prior permission of the local institutions. The pictures are self-explanatory by view and attract the attention of common people emphasizing the effect on them. Few Do’s and Don’ts are also covered in the wall painting.
