Project Description

LOLT in partnership with GRUH Finance stared a women empowerment & skilling centre at Kashele, Karjat, Maharashtra to support skilling of 400 women.

 

The courses in which the training was conducted were in Sewing & Tailoring (basic and advanced level), Shirt pant making, Beautician programme (basic and advanced), Short term courses in Jewellery making, Toran making, Mehndi designing and Kitchen gardening.

 

Programmes / Activities Conducted - Month of October 2018:

 

1) Tailoring: Trainer started the tailoring batch with 31 women on 1st October 2018. There were total 28 women in basic course and 03 women in advanced course. She conducted sessions on petticoat making, blouse - simple, yoke etc. An advance tailoring batch was started in this month with 16 women on shirt & pant making. Accordingly, in this month the trainer took sessions on machine introduction, measurement, half shirt theory, diagram, paper cutting, cloth cutting, cloth stitching & press etc.

 

2) Short Term Course - Jewellery making: Team mobilised students for Jewellery making batch in this month. Trainers started this batch from 25th October 2018. Sessions were conducted on information of tools and designs.

 

3) Jewellery exhibition: Light of Life Trust displayed jewellery, painting & stationery at the NGO Mela held on 20th & 21st October 2018 at CCI Club, Mumbai. On display were 80 jewellery items prepared by the women from the previous jewellery batches.

 

4) Short Term Course - Mehndi batch:Trainer started Mehndi batch in this month with 14 girls. In this batch trainer has covered the following syllabus content - designs with lines, cone making & handling, Arabic Mehndi design, Dulhan Mehndi design along with practical training.

 

5) Mobilization:Team has started mobilisation during this month for tailoring, Jewellery Making and short-term courses. Community mobiliser and trainers jointly conducted the meetings. Village wise group meetings were organised in surrounding villages. Team covered total 12 villages for mobilisation. Meetings were conducted in the villages nearest to the centre - Naladhe, Sugave, Borwadi, Kikavi, Anjap, Kavthewadi, Ramachiwadi etc. Pamphlets were also distributed to all villagers. During the field visit team interacted with students on importance of the courses and motivated to them to visit the centre.

 

6) Income generation activities for the tailoring students: Tailoring women group has taken school uniform orders. Accordingly, Team helped them to get the orders. Student group took school uniform orders in this season - 32 uniforms were stitched by the women which earned them a total profit of  Rs 2080/-.

 

7) Visit by Elizabeth Coffey: Ms Coffey visited Kashele centre as mentor from head office, Mumbai. She interacted with the beautician and tailoring course women for entrepreneurship. Her guidance was on designs and technical skills updating. She conducted confidence building activities with our women. She will be giving some contacts for tailoring/stitching order. 14 women participated in the training given by her.

 

8) Visit by Mr. Prashant Rangnekar: Indian Navy Captain Mr. Rangnekar visited Kashele centre. He interacted with the women and checked their stitching quality. He is looking at placing boiler suit stitching order with LOLT on a regular basis. This order will provide regular income generation for the women as his orders are monthly round the year. The details are being worked on.

 

9) Health Program:During this month LOLT Medical Mobile Unit organised a health camp for our beneficiaries at the Kashele Centre.

 

9.1) TB Awareness session:LOLT’s health unit organised TB Awareness session for Women. Health team conducted awareness session through PPT presentation. 25 women participated in this awareness session.

 

9.2) Eye Check-up Camp:Team organised eye screening camp in collaboration with Nair Super Speciality Eye Hospital, New Mumbai. 62 people were screened by the health unit.

 

Month of November 2018:

 

1) Tailoring Batch:The tailoring batch continued with 31 women. The focus was on making of umbrella frock stitching, simple blouse, yoke blouse stitching, katori blouse and practice sessions. Also, advance tailoring batch continued with 16 women. In this batch trainer conducted sessions on full shirt theory, diagram, paper cutting, cloth cutting, cloth stitching &press.

 

2) Short Term Course -Jewellery making batch:Trainer continued this batch with 25 women in this month. Trainer organised alternate day’s sessions for the batch and took more practice sessions. Women learnt types of Jewellery (threading, wiring and hook).

 

3) Income generation activities to Jewellery Students:Jewellery group created some necklace & earring designs and this jewellery was sold during Light of Life Trust’s internal training to the staff earning Rs. 2045.

 

4) Mobilization:Team has been mobilising for batches of tailoring & beautician course for next month’s batches. Mobiliser has organised villagemeetings, home visits, Aganwadi sevika’s meeting, pamphlet distribution and counselling session. Team are also mobilising for jewellery batch. Accordingly, enquiries were answered at the centre level. Team also promoted the Mehndi and Toran making course during ongoing sessions and field visits.

 

5) Health Program:Team organised a Cardiac camp in collaboration with Balaji Hospital, Mumbai on 4th November 2018 at the centre. 40 people attended the camp.

 

6) Job offered:During this month, teamoffered work for jewellery making at Mumbai. Ms. Saloni Shah, a jewellery designer wanted to employ some of the trained women.
