Project Description

Project SCREEN is an integrated approach for prevention and early detection intervention on non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and cancers (cervix, breast and oral) which works towards contributing to the national goal of reducing mortality and morbidity from NCDs. SCREEN works collaboratively with the state government of Jharkhand, Haryana, Maharashtra Punjab and Karnataka in 35 districts to improve screening and early detection of NCDs and capacity building. Project SCREEN adopts a three-pillar approach to implement the package of interventions based on:

  • Capacity building of health teams and primary care physicians
  • Community awareness call to action drive for screening
  • Advocacy for scaling up

The key strategic approaches of SCREEN are:

  • Rapid formative assessment
  • Formation of Technical Advisory Group
  • Strengthening capacity of the health system for screening, early diagnosis and referral of NCDs
  • Community awareness and screening on NCDs 5.
  • Documenting the learnings and advocating for scaling.

Special Features of Project

  • Project Implemented in partnership with 5 state governments across 35 districts.
  • 13 out of the 35 are aspirational districts under PMJAY.
  • Developed a NCD tool Box (comprehensive Capacity Building and community mobilization package) adapted by state governments.
  • Successfully mobilized funds and increased fund allocations for NCD screening and trainings within the state PIP planning
  • Multiple SCREEN selected Health Centers upgraded/selected as HWC
  • Trained approximately 4770, government healthcare providers.
  • Screened >45,167 people above >30years of age. Screen data being reported in state HMIS
  • Indirectly reached and created awareness among 1,80,688 people
