SAWF IN believes that resourcing women-led, community-level actions for building women’s access to justice is much needed. It strengthens grassroots organizing and builds leadership and capacities within communities of women, to solve their problems, through collective action. It is an essential strategy for strengthening feminist movement building. Since 2017, SAWF IN has been supporting Diya Welfare Society (DWS), a Dalit women’s rights organization working in the Karwi block of Chitrakoot district, Uttar Pradesh on the issue of building women’s leadership and strengthening their efforts to access justice for survivors of gender-based violence. With support from Leiner Shoes Pvt. Ltd., DWS has been working in 12 villages, to enhance the leadership of Dalit women who have mobilised themselves into a strong group and lead village-level collectives of women. The collectives act as the first line of response to women facing gender-based violence and social injustices in their families and the community. DWS has collectivised women in the community to form the network, Diya Mahila Manch, a Block-level federation (Sangathan) connecting ?1200 women in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. ?
SAWF IN supports grassroots organisations led by women and trans persons that are working towards gender transformative change. We operate from the world view that communities of women and trans people who are most affected are best suited to arrive at the most effective course of action to address their aspirations.
