BEresponsible E-waste Campaign

Environmental Synergies In Development

Program Description

We are an NGO with an aim to reduce the environmental footprint of organizations, establishments and institutions in India. We design and implement solutions that improve resource use efficiency - specifically energy, water and waste. Deeply integrated into our projects and programmes is environmental awareness and behavioral change through customized experiential learning for the stakeholders involved.

The main objective of the initiative is to change citizens behaviour towards the environment, and cultivate responsible consumer action, this is facilitated by three distinct components:
Awareness: Highlighting issues related to improper disposal of e-waste, through various campaigns in RWAs, educational, governmental institutions and commercial establishments. The awareness is imparted in various formats including presentations, e-waste drives, e-waste days in different locations, street plays, student competitions, art installations, etc.
E-waste Collection: Based on citizen behaviour towards ease and access three (3) options have been put in place: public drop-off boxes; on-call pickup using hotline numbers; and monthly scheduled pickup at enlisted locations/RWAs. We have an electric vehicle and use rental logistics as necessary for on-call pick up of larger e-waste items.
Survey and research: Conduct surveys to quantify the existing non-bulk e-waste disposal methods in wards which are outside the program coverage area and compare with wards in the program coverage area. As there is very little data available on non-bulk generation and recycling. In addition, conduct targeted and applied research for the improvement of the program.
