Shriram Group established the Shriram Foundation in 1993 (incorporated initially as Shriram Social Welfare Trust) and has been mainly focusing on the following:
-Education
-Orphan and destitute care
Shriram Foundation works towards empowering marginalised communities with a special focus on children and youth. It works in the areas of education, skill development, livelihood development and further provides vocational education and scholarships.
The education program of the Foundation focuses on running and supporting schools and educational establishments in the rural areas of the nation. The three focus areas under this initiative include child development, teacher development and school and community relations development.
The aim of the project is to address issues pertaining to the quality of education by adopting the rights-based approach. A 'rights-based approach' is where the individual, as an integral unit of the community, becomes important, and hence his or her rights for the well-being of the individual are paramount.
The skill development and livelihood programme is in line with the Government of India’s Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. In order to pursue its objective, the foundation has tied-up with different training organisations to sponsor courses with large employment potential with an aim to empower youth and women.
