Sneh Asha Foundation empowers underprivileged communities across Maharashtra through education, digital literacy, and skills that create pathways out of poverty. MelJol is a non-profit organization committed to empowering children, youth, women and communities to build the knowledge, skills, confidence and agency needed to overcome intergenerational poverty and create better futures. MelJol began in 1991 as a field action project of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), initiated by Prof. Jeroo Billimoria and Prof. Lata Narayan under the guidance of Prof. Armaity Desai. Its early work focused on bridging socioeconomic divides among children. Guided by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, MelJol subsequently expanded its work to address poverty, financial literacy, and gender inequality. It was formally registered as an independent Society and Public Trust in 1999. In 2001, MelJol introduced children`s savings groups and developed a social and financial education approach that later inspired Aflatoun International, established by Jeroo Billimoria in 2005 to take this model to children around the world. Today, MelJol works across Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, reaching children, youth, women and communities through programs like Aflatoun Integrated Life-skill education and employability program (AI-LEAP), Akshar Mitra, Young Leaders Programme, Nirmaan Initiative, GramArth and Integrated Child and Youth centric development Program (ICYCD). Its integrated approach combines life skills, financial literacy, 3E’s - Education, Employability, Entrepreneurship, digital literacy, sports for development and community engagement. YosAid Innovation Foundation is an FCRA-approved Indian non-profit (Section 8) transforming patient care through family empowerment. In India, over 25 lakh health worker shortages mean providers spend barely 2.5 minutes explaining home care to families. This gap leads to preventable complications, reduced hospital readmissions and lost lives. YAIF bridges this divide through the Care Companion Program (CCP). We convert crowded hospital waiting areas into engaging classrooms. Existing healthcare staff teach families vital skills in maternal, cardiac, chronic disease care among other themes. After discharge, our WhatsApp-based Mobile Care Companion delivers ongoing guidance and live medical support at home. With active MoUs across 9 states, YAIF leverages public health systems to scale efficiently. To date, we have trained 23,000+ healthcare workers and reached over 5.9 crore patients across 14,900+ facilities. Our model drives real results, reducing neonatal mortality by 18% and post-surgical cardiac complications by 71%.
