Titan Company Ltd
In an effort to highlight the company’s social responsibility, Titan Company Ltd. and Sankara Eye Hospital have collaborated to lead a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the pressing backlog of cataract blindness in Tamil Nadu. This pioneering partnership has successfully restored sight to many individuals and empowered communities with essential skills and resources, paving the way for a brighter future.
The Key Informant Methodology (KIM) is an innovative social mobilization approach geared toward permitting network-primarily based prognosis, treatment, and provision of assistive gadgets for people with disabilities in hard-to-attain regional and rural areas with low to center-earnings demographics.
Titan's medical team identified and trained key informants, including self-help group members, university students, Panchayat workers, and local NGO personnel, on conducting basic eye screenings and utilizing online data collection tools. Equipped with screening kits, these informants have played a crucial role in identifying individuals within their communities and referring them to our network outreach programs, supported by stipends.
This grassroots approach has been instrumental in overcoming barriers and addressing the unique challenges faced by rural and underserved communities. By empowering local individuals as Key Informants, the program has fostered a sense of ownership and responsibility within these groups, ensuring a more robust and sustainable impact.
The success of the Key Informant Methodology can be attributed to its comprehensive training program, which equips Key Informants with essential skills and knowledge to conduct initial eye screenings, identify potential cases, and refer them to specialized medical professionals. This proactive approach has significantly alleviated the burden on healthcare systems and bridged the gap between communities and healthcare services.
Moreover, the initiative has embraced technological advancements by integrating online data collection and management systems. Key Informants utilize digital tools to record and track patient information, facilitating seamless coordination between community outreach efforts and medical centers. This data-driven approach has streamlined processes, ensuring efficient resource allocation and timely interventions.
In an impactful collaboration, Titan Company Ltd. And Sankara Eye Hospital have spearheaded the primary-of-its-kind initiative inside Tamil Nadu to tackle the urgent difficulty of the cataract blindness backlog. With over 2,24,000 people screened and 3174 unfastened cataract surgical procedures performed, this system indicates a revolutionary leap forward in network eye care.
Using the innovative Key Informant Methodology (KIM), this initiative engaged local communities in identifying and treating eye diseases, equipping them with essential skills and resources. This grassroots approach resulted in the successful treatment of 17,001 individuals with various eye conditions, including 9,153 who received free corrective spectacles. Furthermore, the collaboration expanded its services to encompass the treatment of other eye disorders such as Glaucoma, Retina, Cornea, and Occuloplasty, with 367 specialized surgical procedures performed to date.
In Annur Taluk alone, the program achieved a remarkable 100% coverage across all villages, conducting 884 surgeries and distributing 3,927 spectacles within 18 months. Prior to this initiative, Titan's monthly Gift Of Vision outreach camps typically handled 10 to 12 cases per month—a figure that has now quadrupled. Notably, the initiative has not only restored vision but also empowered communities, resulting in an estimated societal economic benefit of Rs. 14.32 Crores.
N. E. Sridhar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Titan Company Limited, expressed delight in the project's results, emphasizing Titan's commitment to social responsibility and community welfare. "Titan is honored to support this historic initiative, which has brought light and hope to thousands across Tamil Nadu."
