Project Description

The Integrated Rural Development Project focuses on six main components which are Education, Health, Infrastructure, Livelihood & Empowerment, Environment, and Volunteering. The intervention in each section are as follows:

Education - Student Scholarship Project where students are provided with complete educational scholarship comprising of all fees and materials required by the students to complete their education. Student Mentorship Sessions are also organized with the aim of developing life skills, self-confidence, public speaking, leadership, decision-making abilities, coordination, teamwork, etc. Along with the scholarship and mentoring, the infrastructure facilities of the school such as the library, sports room, and computer rooms are also developed. Special sessions on Mathematics are also conducted through the "Sankalpana" project in the IRD to make it easier for the students to understand the subject using practical hands-on models and remove any phobia of mathematics in the students.

Health - It is generally seen that the water in rural areas is not treated and generally has higher TDS which is not healthy for long-term consumption. In order to overcome this challenge, UWB has made provision for RO purifier and chiller at the rural government school as well as water ATM facilities for the villagers where they can get purified water fit for consumption. In order to ensure there is no water wastage, the Water ATM collects a nominal fee of Rs. 5 per 20 liters of water. This money collected is then utilized for the maintenance of the machine and electricity charges. Specialized medical camps are also organized in the villages with the aim of providing free health screening and awareness about preventive health and hygiene in the community. Free medicines are provided to those who attended the camps and counseling is undertaken in the cases notified by the specialists.

Infrastructure - Requirements of the villages are met such as construction or renovation of toilet blocks, Anganwadi centers, etc.

Livelihood and Empowerment - To empower the women of the villages, UWB provides tailoring training for selected women for a fixed period of time in the villages. The training programs are selected as per the need assessment done in the villages.

Volunteering Programs - Various volunteering programs are conducted in the villages where corporate staff volunteers, organization volunteers, and other volunteers from the villages participate to achieve a common goal which adds on to the development of those vilages.
