
Magu Nagu'- The Dharwad Chronic Malnutrition Free Project is intended to improve the status of 1500 Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM) children between the age of 0 to 6 years, identified by Women and Child Development Department & Government of Karnataka. The program is supported by Tata Marcopolo Motors with interventions that included Nutritional, Medical, Sanitation, Training and periodic follow-ups, 70% of the children have gained weight and are in normal status. For the rest of the children, the interventions are ongoing. It extensively uses ICT to simplify the data, and intensive follow-up processes using customized mobile apps that make the data collection and follow-ups easier. A back end KPI system helps managers to monitor the effectiveness and progress of the interventions.
How the project works:
Data Collection: identify SAM children of the area by gathering the socio-economic data, examining water and sanitation conditions as well as dietary information of the families.
Medical Intervention: organize health check-up camps to identify the status of the malnourished children.
Nutritional Intervention: All malnourished children are provided with Spirulina, Banana and eeZeet peanut paste
Sanitation Intervention: organize training and workshops on the importance of hygiene and sanitation to mothers, pregnant women, fathers and caretakers of children.
Trainings: organise trainings on food practices, breast-feeding, balanced food theory, importance of nutrition and effect of malnutrition on children growth.
Follow Up: observe malnourished children of the area with help of ZOHO, ODK & KPI. Collection of weight, height and MUAC of the children once in every ten days.
