The Pocket Space around the steep turn in Lower Forest Colony was used for dumping and residents always faced issues of foul smell and unhygienic conditions and were running out of ways to change the behaviour of dumping by locals.
Several stakeholder meetings were conducted with the residents of Forest Colony and Kohima Smart City Officials were all the needs of the residents were noted and a plan of action was decided. All residents of Forest Colony were grateful to the Kohima Smart City Development Ltd. for choosing their neighborhood as one of the pilots for NNC.
The residents of Forest Colony collectively arranged for funds for transformation of the pocket space. The dumping waste was cleared and an elevated play space was created using locally available stones which was later levelled by rammed earth as per design provided by WRI, India Team. MS railing was added along the edge to create a safe barrier for toddlers.
The residents of Forest Colony understood the need for a pocket park in their neighborhood and they collected funds for successful implementation of the project. They were also crucial during the on ground implementation process.
