Thalassemia is a rare sickle cell genetic disease due to abnormal surge of red blood cells disturbing the normal functioning of almost all main Hormonal glands and body parts like causing pigmentation i.e., change of skin color(excessive melanin ), deformity of body and expansion of bones, liver cirrhosis, thrombosis, delayed puberty, osteoporosis, short stature and what not-thereby reducing the life of affected person to 15 t0 20 years and extended to a maximum of 35-40 years. He requires transfusion of blood at 5 to 7 days if it is old blood and 12-15 days if it is fresh blood. The weight of body and age are also determining factors for blood transfusion.

Thalassemia has two forms:-
Thalassemia minor is a person who does not behave abnormally and lives normal life, But when two Thalssaemiacs minor types marry because of no awareness of their blood traits, the Chances of producing a Thalassemia Major are 25% & effect of this incognizance is every hour India is giving birth to a new thalassaemias Major Patient which is 10000 new thalassemia patients every year.
Thalassemia test before marriage or in case two got married or committed to marrying the test should be done at the time of Conceive the baby. In this case, every pregnant female should get tested by HBA2 & If She found Minor Thalassaemiac Fetus (CVS test ) is to be done. There are about 1.50 lakh thalassemia in India as per Govt Figures. We intend to stop Thalassemia by taking the following measures.
