Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world. It is not just about knowing to read and write but to make use of the knowledge gained in that process. Education is the ability to think, apply it in the world and to know the value of life.
A holistic education for the future generation paves way towards gaining knowledge of the world and helps in transformation of it into something better. Education is irrespective of caste, creed and gender, by gaining knowledge people can stand out as equal with all the other persons from different caste and creed. It is a platform to prove the equity by defeating all barriers.
The current curriculum followed by schools lacks a practical relation to the current technologies and happenings of the world. Rather than teaching and making the kids understand how to create the world around us, how to sustain it for future generations and how to develop relations for existence most of them, they are basically loaded with bookish knowledge and asked to mug up and get high grades.
This Karka Kasadara project started out by Thuvakkam strives to balance out the theoretical knowledge of the school, with the practical requirements of life. In this project, the kids are taught using practical methodologies. Unconventional topics relating to society’s political, scientific and social aspects such as, ‘Who am I?’, ‘Soil, Plants, and Food’, ‘Good touch, bad touch’, and ‘Learn politics’ are taught to kids to expose them to societal happenings and their part in the world as a whole.
By doing so, the kids start developing societal awareness that instills morality in them at a young age. By learning to act rather than to react to the things happening around them. It helps them find self-purpose and teaches them a way to connect with their community. It helps them to know what harm we are doing to the world as a society and guides everyone to protect the world from all dangers which are caused by knowingly/unknowingly by us. This is the kind of wealth that can be transformed from ages to ages for the betterment of society.
